Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Paraprofessional to join our team. This role is essential in providing support to students with diverse learning needs, ensuring they have a positive and productive educational experience. The ideal candidate will work closely with teachers and other staff to assist in the implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and foster an inclusive classroom environment.
Responsibilities
- Assist teachers in preparing instructional materials and adapting lessons for students with special needs.
- Support students in their daily activities, including academic tasks, social interactions, and personal care as needed.
- Implement strategies outlined in IEPs to help students achieve their educational goals.
- Monitor student progress and behavior, providing feedback to teachers and parents as necessary.
- Facilitate communication between students and peers, promoting social skills development.
- Maintain a safe and organized classroom environment conducive to learning.
- Participate in training sessions and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge in special education.
Skills
- Experience working with children, particularly in a preschool or private school setting.
- Knowledge of special education practices, including familiarity with IEPs and individualized instruction.
- Proficiency in American Sign Language is a plus for effective communication with students who are hearing impaired.
- Strong understanding of child development principles, especially related to toddlers and children with disabilities.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact effectively with students, parents, and staff.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team-oriented environment while being flexible to meet the needs of individual students.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for educating children with diverse learning needs.
