Function:The SID Teacher must provide a learning environment that is both stimulating as well as sensitive to the needs of children who have a severe and profound disabilitiesEssential Functions:Provide learning activities to all children that are appropriate to their levels.Provide supervision and guidance to Paraprofessional(s) who are assigned to the class.Meet with parents to disclose individual student progress.Work cooperatively with other professionals including related service providers: Chapter 1 teachers, Chapter 1 counselors, and special education staff, in meeting the needs of the students.Attend regularly scheduled meetings regarding individual students and programming issues.Prepare an individualized education program (IEP) suited to the needs of each child and establish educational goals and objectives for each student on an IEP consistent with state education regulations.Evaluate academic and social growth of pupils and keeps appropriate records of such informal assessments.Provide support and counseling to parents and/or guardians as needed.Select and requisition books, instructional aids, instructional supplies and equipment.Assume other related duties as may be assigned.QualificationsRIDE Special Education SID certificationESL RI certification is preferred
