Description
Responsible for the cleaning, assembling, wrapping and sterilizing of surgical packs and instruments utilizing principles of Standard Precautions and Event Related Sterility.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Demonstrates thorough knowledge of instrument processing, sterilization and biological monitoring.Accurately handles and cares for instruments / equipment appropriately, including selection of cleaning agents, lubricants, examination for function, identification and assembly according to count sheet and preparation of sterilization.Maintains accurate records of sterilization for all reusable itemsDemonstrates knowledge of techniques , procedures and correct use of protective barrier equipmentItems are correctly sorted according to heat sensitivity, immersabilty and delicate items upon arrival in the decontamination area.Determines appropriate mode of sterilization for all reusable itemsLoad, monitor, operate and maintain different types of cleaning and sterilization equipment and machinery accurately and safely.Identify, document, and report equipment and tools in need of repair and ensures maintenance is completed.Correctly peel-pack supplies/instruments, wraps instruments for sterilization, inspects each instrument for use, function, completeness, and cleanliness.Maintains work area, equipment, and instruments in clean working conditionAnticipates and has available the necessary sterile equipment for posted casesAssists in maintaining records of all equipment and supplies, ordering of supplies as needed, and monitoring quality control and infection control standards.Demonstrate knowledge of and adhere to regulations and policies and procedures pertaining to safety, emergency preparedness, infection control, OSHA, fire safety and hazardous materials.Perform other duties as assigned.
Education & Experience
High school graduate of equivalent is preferredOne(1) year Central processing experience preferredCertified by the Board of Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) or the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materials Management (IAHCSMM) or must obtain within 1 year of hire date.Demonstrates good interpersonal skills.Must have understanding of basic medical terminology.
