Requirements
- Strong software development experience and advanced programming capability in Python and/or Perl.
- Experience applying SDLC best practices on large software development projects.
- Good knowledge of computer science fundamentals.
- Strong organisational skills, good English communication skills, and the ability to prioritise multiple projects and objectives.
- Intermediate or higher-level experience in storage and/or Linux.
- Desirable: knowledge of object-oriented programming concepts, SQL, and databases.
- Desirable: experience deploying, operating, or administering Linux in an enterprise environment, particularly RHEL; enterprise UNIX/RHEL or Windows Server architecture experience.
- Desirable: knowledge of Fibre Channel, iSCSI, SCSI, NFS, CIFS, POSIX, Object Storage, SAS, SATA, NVMe, SSD, RAID, and Erasure Coding.
- Desirable: experience with distributed and scale-out storage, file systems, high-availability approaches, and client/server and scale-out architectures.
- Desirable: understanding of networking protocols and connectivity, virtualisation, performance and capacity management, and troubleshooting across operating systems, networking, and storage.
- Desirable: container experience with Red Hat OpenShift, Kubernetes, or Docker, and cloud exposure across Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud.
- Desirable: exposure to NetApp 7mode/cDOT/Engenio, IBM Spectrum Scale/GPFS, HDS Storage Arrays/HCP, EMC Atmos, Brocade SAN/FOS, Veritas Storage Foundation Suite, Sybase, or DB2.
- Must be able to attend onsite in Glasgow at least 3 days per week and participate in a face-to-face interview in Glasgow. Candidates based locally or within reasonable commuting distance are strongly preferred.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop highly available, scalable software solutions supporting enterprise storage infrastructure.
- Develop applications for storage provisioning, monitoring, alerting, auditing, and inventory management.
- Develop in-house applications that form part of the wider technology platform.
- Contribute to the architecture and integration of storage solutions, including collaboration with third-party vendors.
- Develop tools for problem management and preventative maintenance.
- Contribute to alert and capacity management solutions.
- Work with storage virtualisation, automation, and provisioning technologies.
- Work with distributed and scale-out file systems and software-defined storage.
- Contribute to infrastructure automation and observability.
- Troubleshoot across operating systems, networks, and storage.
- Collaborate with a global team, understand customer requirements, and communicate appropriate technical solutions.

We are recruiting for a technology function within a leading global financial services organisation. This development-focused contract role supports enterprise storage infrastructure and associated technology in a large-scale technology environment. The position is based in Glasgow with hybrid working and a minimum of 3 days onsite per week; the contract length is to be confirmed. The rate is £500 per day, inside IR35.
