The Role
The Senior Vice President Engineering reports directly to the Chief Technology & Product Officer in the Security, Technology, Engineering, Product, and Network (STEPN) organization and will drive the vision & strategy for the entire engineering organization. This role will serve as an execution-oriented change agent, bringing next-generation approaches to engineering. The SVP Engineering will enable disruptive innovation through cutting-edge development practices and will foster internal collaboration for best-in-class engineering outcomes. They will work closely with cross-functional partners in Product, AGT, Enterprise Ops, and more.
The ideal candidate will lead with Lumen’s cultural attributes top of mind, be highly collaborative, have extensive knowledge of industry-specific quality standards, tools, and tracking.
The Main Responsibilities
- Lead a high performing team of VPs, technical experts, and engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, teamwork, trust, and excellence.
- Spearhead major engineering efforts including but not limited to Service Now, Salesforce, Lumen Digital Development, and more.
- Set standards for technologies, frameworks, and processes to promote a simple and consistent approach across multiple types of services.
- Establish and monitor key performance indicators to measure program and platform success and drive data-informed decision making.
- Drive enhancement and execution of overall engineering processes.
- Partner with cross-functional leaders to define service ownership roles and responsibilities for infrastructure, DevOps, SRE, and service teams to ensure reliability, performance, scalability, and operational excellence.
- Drive numerous high-impact programs spanning infrastructure and engineering teams, influencing and driving actions through active listening and engagement at all levels of the organization.
- Identify trends and promote solutions across multiple product areas by being an influencer on software architecture best practices, including supportability, scalability, performance, availability, maintainability, extensibility, and security.
What We Look For in a Candidate
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; Masters preferred.
- 15+ years of experience in Engineering or related field(s), with at least 10 years in a leadership role. Experience in Technology or Telecommunications companies preferred.
- Strong, proven expertise in building and leading with data and clear KPIs.
- Ability to establish credibility and rapport with a broad set of executives and cross-functional peer groups.
- Exceptional analytical skills with the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights.
- Proven track record of project management and governance.
- Excellent leadership and team management skills.
- Strong presentation, communication and collaboration abilities, with a focus on cross-functional partnerships.
- Deep understanding of service assurance best practices, risk management frameworks, and performance monitoring tools.
Compensation
This information reflects the anticipated base salary range for this position based on current national data. Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Individual pay is based on skills, experience and other relevant factors.
Location Based Pay Ranges
$273,787 - $365,050 in all states.
