Who We Need

IoT Solution Architect

The IoT Solution Architect will lead the design, integration, and deployment of enterprise-grade IoT solutions using PTC ThingWorx and related technologies. This role is responsible for translating customer requirements into scalable, secure, and performant IoT architectures. The architect will work across stakeholders, development teams, and system integrators to deliver connected operations solutions across sectors such as defense, manufacturing, smart infrastructure, and logistics. Daily tasks will include UI design and development using the PTC Thingworx platform, JavaScript programming, data management, ongoing optimization/refinement of all code-based components and maintaining source-control for all project components and documentation. Additional tasks may include report development, assisting with the development of BI analytical tools and/or reports, and supporting the creation and maintenance of proper documentation for the project as required. The chosen candidate will work closely with other developers, management, and the client in an Agile-based development environment to develop/maintain functionality that is consistent and satisfies all requirements put forth.

  • Lead end-to-end solution architecture for IoT systems built on the PTC ThingWorx platform
  • Design and configure ThingWorx entities including Things, ThingTemplates, ThingShapes, Mashups, Services, DataTables, and Streams
  • Define integration strategies with Kepware, Vuforia, and third-party systems (e.g., ERP, CMMS, GIS)
  • Collaborate with developers to build scalable, secure, and modular IoT applications
  • Define data models, RESTful API integrations, and message brokers (e.g., MQTT, OPC UA)
  • Guide implementation of edge-to-cloud architectures using ThingWorx Edge SDKs, AlwaysOn, and Kepware
  • Implement role-based access controls, runtime permissions, and visibility structures
  • Support deployment in secure environments (cloud, on-prem, disconnected) following RMF, NIST 800-53, and FedRAMP practices
  • Provide architecture diagrams, interface definitions, and documentation for stakeholder review
  • Collaborate with project managers and product owners to align technical implementation with operational goals
  • Provide mentorship and technical leadership across solution delivery teams
  • Identify opportunities and make recommendations for software, process, reporting, or other technology improvements

Job Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in IoT solution development and systems integration
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience with PTC ThingWorx, including Composer, Mashup Builder, and Thing Services
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience with end-to-end solution/product design and planning
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience with leading technical design and development team
  • Minimum 5+ years of C-based programming experience (Java, JavaScript, C++, PHP, etc.)
  • Minimum 4+ years of experience with SQL and designing/maintaining relational databases
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience with object-oriented programming
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience with polymorphism
  • Minimum 4+ years of experience with REST-based web services and JSON
  • Minimum 4+ years of experience with form or web-based UI design
  • Proficiency in edge connectivity protocols (e.g., MQTT, OPC UA, Modbus, REST)
  • Working knowledge of Kepware, Vuforia, or similar AR/OT data integration tools
  • Familiarity with DevOps/DevSecOps, containerization (Docker), and CI/CD pipelines
  • Experience with security models, SSO/LDAP integration, and API authorization
  • Strong understanding of industrial domains (e.g., defense, smart facilities, manufacturing)
  • Ability to follow security protocols to protect sensitive data
  • U.S. Citizen
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field

Preferred Qualifications

  • Better Qualified: Machine Learning experience
  • Better Qualified: Experience with multiple programming languages – VB, C#, C++, Java, etc.
  • Better Qualified: Experience with web development– HTML5, JavaScript, and CSS
  • Better Qualified: Power BI, Cognos, Tableau or other BI experience
  • Better Qualified: Possession of CompTIA A+, Network +, Security+, or equivalent certification
  • Better Qualified: Experience with Microsoft .NET Framework

Salary and Benefits

The range for this position is between $120,000 and $140,000. Actual salary will be negotiated with this position’s Hiring Manager and can vary depending on the following factors: Billable contract and labor category, experience, skills, education /certifications/ licenses & geographic location.
