The successful candidate for this entry-level position will have a four-year degree in Accounting with some corporate tax coursework, knowledge of Excel and strong systems aptitude (Oracle Cloud, Vertex, and Corptax experience preferred), a strong work ethic and interpersonal/communication skills, willingness and ability to learn about all areas of taxation, and 0-2+ years of accounting or tax experience.
RESPONSIBILITIES •Under supervision, prepare all monthly/quarterly/annual sales/use tax returns and associated journal entries/accounting on a timely basis. •Under supervision, prepare Canadian GST/HST/PST/QST returns and associated journal entries/accounting on a timely basis. •Research sales/use tax issues and questions. •Reconcile all sales/use tax accounts on a monthly basis. •Participate in process improvement initiatives in the sales/use tax area. •Assist with the preparation of state income tax returns, state apportionment schedules, calculation of estimated payments, and related accounting. •Assist with preparation of schedules required for the federal income tax return. •Assist Senior Director – State and Local Taxes with property tax compliance work and/or preparation for valuation visits. •Prepare Abandoned and Unclaimed property filings •Prepare various railroad/payroll related returns (Federal Forms CT-1, 945A, DC-1, etc) •Other special projects as necessary
QUALIFICATIONS •Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field from four-year college or university with some corporate tax coursework. •Knowledge of Excel and strong systems aptitude (Oracle Cloud, Vertex, and Corptax experience preferred). •Strong work ethic and interpersonal/communication skills. •Willingness and ability to learn about all areas of taxation. •0-2+ years of tax experience in either public accounting or a corporate tax department. •CPA, MSA, or MST completed or in process a plus.
