The Payroll and Tax Accountant will play a critical role in ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing, compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations, and maintaining high standards of internal controls. This position will collaborate cross-functionally with HR and Finance to support Concert Health’s growing team across multiple states.
This role is ideal for someone who is detail-oriented, analytical, and passionate about getting the numbers right—especially when it comes to supporting the people behind them.
Key Responsibilities:
Payroll Operations
- Process bi-weekly payroll for a multi-state workforce, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Maintain payroll records, audit timesheets, resolve discrepancies, and implement necessary corrections.
- Manage payroll updates related to new hires, terminations, promotions, bonuses, and benefits deductions.
- Coordinate with HR on employee changes, benefits integrations, and PTO policies.
Tax Compliance
- Ensure accurate calculation and timely filing of all federal, state, and local payroll taxes.
- Liaison to state and local tax agencies for compliance and issue resolution.
- Monitor tax law changes and assess impact on payroll/tax practices.
- Maintain compliance with all relevant state registrations as Concert expands into new geographies.
- Support year-end tax reporting including W-2s and 1099s.
Accounting and Reporting
- Reconcile payroll-related general ledger accounts on a regular basis.
- Support month-end and year-end close activities related to payroll and taxes.
- Prepare payroll journal entries and provide reporting to Finance as needed.
- Assist with audits (financial, tax, and compliance) by preparing necessary documentation.
- Support the Finance department with additional accounting and finance related ad hoc tasks.
Systems & Process Improvement
- Help maintain and optimize payroll systems (Rippling).
- Recommend and implement process improvements for accuracy, efficiency, and scalability.
- Develop and document standard operating procedures related to payroll and tax.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 3+ years of experience in payroll processing and tax accounting; multi-state experience strongly required.
- CPA or CPP certification is a plus, but not required.
- Solid understanding of payroll and tax regulations at federal, state, and local levels.
- Proficiency with payroll systems and accounting software.
- Strong Excel skills and attention to detail.
- Experience working in a remote or high-growth environment a plus.

Schedule:
- Full-time, 40 hours per week.
- Remote position with occasional travel (up to 10%).
