Division Overview:
Ampirical’s Substation Engineering Division has recognized national expertise in the planning and design of new substations and high voltage electrical substations and switchyards. The mixture of our talents to offer all aspects of substation/switchyard design services, our trained resources to get the job done, and technical knowledge allows us to design a multitude of solutions to fit the client’s need.
Job Summary:
The Technical Specialist is responsible for the detailed design of electric systems and components for Substation Facilities in accordance with applicable industry codes and standards. This includes preparation of protection and control one-line diagrams, AC/DC schematics, and wiring diagrams. They will be responsible for developing detailed protection and control design packages for electrical substation construction purposes. The Technical Specialist will work under the supervision of experienced electrical engineers.

Who You Are:
- Engineering Technology with Concentration in electrical (preferred)

Engineering Technology Degree plus 8 + years of experience in protection and control design (Concentration in Electrical Preferred).
Design experience in Autodesk AutoCAD, and/or Autodesk AutoCAD Electrical, Bentley Microstation, and/or Bentley Substation required
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Uses Autodesk AutoCAD, Autodesk AutoCAD Electrical, Bentley Microstation, and/or Bentley Substation, software in the preparation of electrical substation equipment including schematic diagrams, wiring diagrams and panel layout drawings.
- Performs voltage drop calculations as required to proper cable sizing.
- Prepares 2D drawings of one-line/elementary diagrams, control building layouts, panel layouts, schematics, wiring diagrams, power distribution system, etc.
- Consults with electrical engineer and engineering supervisor to develop the 2D drawings for final construction packages.
- Serves as a mentor for new engineers and designers.
