We are seeking a compliance-focused contract technical writer to support the development and refinement of safety and operations documentation. This role requires translating complex regulatory standards into clear, enforceable, and field-ready procedures that align with the most stringent requirements (e.g., ANSI Z133, CAL/OSHA, OSHA).
The Technical Writer will collaborate closely with subject matter experts (SMEs), project managers, and other stakeholders to produce documentation that meets standards for legal defensibility, enforceability, and operational excellence.
Work Environment
- Remote contract position: work will be performed virtually
- Minimal travel required
- Occasional onsite visits may be requested for stakeholder collaboration or field observation
- Contract duration through December 31, 2025, with potential extension into Q1 of 2026 based on project needs
Key Responsibilities
- Identify duplications, overlaps, and ambiguous language; propose clear, actionable rewrites
- Analyze existing documents and regulatory references (ANSI, OSHA, CAL/OSHA, internal standards) to determine the most stringent applicable standard for each section
- Convert vague or passive language into precise, procedural instructions to ensure usability and enforceability
- Incorporate stakeholder feedback into documentation updates
Qualifications
- Proven experience in technical writing, with a focus on compliance-based documentation
- Strong command of clear, concise, and procedural language
- Ability to create documentation that is both legally defensible and operationally practical
- Familiarity with ANSI, OSHA, and CAL/OSHA standards strongly preferred
- Experience in client-facing or cross-functional roles is a plus
Skill Assessment
To help determine the right fit and validate core competencies, candidates may be asked to complete a brief writing exercise, which may include:
- Reviewing a sample excerpt containing vague, overlapping, or non-compliant language
- Rewriting the excerpt to meet enforceability, clarity, and compliance standards
- Identifying the most stringent applicable regulation (ANSI, OSHA, CAL/OSHA) and justifying the selection.
Travel
- Are you available to work remotely full-time with a potential to travel for stakeholder meetings if requested?
