Why does the job exist?
The Tourism Development Division Director oversees the Visitor Information Centers, and the various grant programs such as the Clean & Beautiful Grant Program, the Tourism Event Growth and Sustainability Grant Program as well as the Destination Forward Grant Program, which helps New Mexico tribal communities, counties and municipalities keep their cities beautiful, update their facilities, and increase the visibility of local events that drive tourism.
How does the job get done?
The Tourism Development Division Director is responsible for implementing technical assistance tools and facilitating industry resources and capacity support programs for tourism related businesses wishing to locate, expand, or do business in New Mexico. The Tourism Development Director will focus on tourism development projects and initiatives to include business models that foster job creation, optimize tourism business opportunities, and maintain or expand economic viability. This position oversees the successful implementation of the department's Tourism Event Growth & Sustainability Program (TEGS), tourism infrastructure grant program -- Destination Forward, and the Clean and Beautiful Program. It also oversees the Visitor Information Centers operated by the department and its fulfillment manager, which has oversight of NMTD promotional item ordering, inventory, and management.

Minimum Qualification
A Bachelor's degree in any field of study from an accredited college or university and six (6) years of professional level experience with a tactical impact directly related to the purpose of the position defined by the agency at the time of recruitment. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling ten (10) years may substitute for the required education and experience. A hiring agency will designate a portion of the required experience to include supervisory and/or specialized experience. Any required licensure, certification or registration shall be defined at the time of recruitment and will be in addition to the above requirements.

Pay: $68,302.00 - $109,283.00 per year
