Volunteer Tower Solutions is currently hiring a Tower Technician specializing in lighting systems to support our growing operations across the Southeastern US, including Tennessee, Kentucky, Georgia, Alabama, and surrounding states. This role focuses on the installation, maintenance, and repair of tower lighting systems on existing communications towers. Ideal candidates are comfortable working at heights, enjoy traveling, have strong electrical and mechanical skills, and are committed to safety and reliability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Climb and work safely on towers and tall structures (0-500+ ft) throughout the Southeast region to install, service, and repair lighting systems.
- Troubleshoot lighting failures; replace and repair lighting components as needed.
- Work closely with the NOC (Network Operations Center) to test and document repairs.
- Follow strict safety protocols and ensure all work is performed in accordance with OSHA, company, and industry standards.
- Travel regularly within the Southeast region with overnight stays.
- Maintain tools, safety gear, and inventory in field-ready condition.
Qualifications:
Required:
- High school diploma or GED.
- 1+ years of experience as a tower technician, field electrician, or lighting technician.
- If not currently certified, willingness to obtain Competent Climber/Rescuer certifications. Training to obtain required certifications will be provided.
- Strong understanding of basic electrical systems, testing equipment, and climbing safety practices.
- Ability to climb and work at heights (0-500+ ft) safely and efficiently.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Willingness to travel extensively throughout the Southeast.
- This is a safety sensitive position. VTS maintains a drug and alcohol-free work environment. An offer of employment is conditional upon passing a background check and drug screen.
Preferred:
- OSHA 10/30 certification and Competent Climber/Rescuer certification.
- First Aid/CPR training.
- RF Safety training.
- Knowledge of obstruction lighting systems (Flash Technology, ITL, TWR).
- Knowledge of remote monitoring and alarm systems a plus.
- Prior experience with utility towers or DOT lighting projects is a bonus.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to climb towers and carry 50+ lbs of equipment.
- Comfortable working outdoors in Southeastern U.S. climates (heat & humidity, cold, etc).
- Good manual dexterity and attention to detail for working with electrical components.
