POSITION SUMMARY: This position is primarily responsible for the facilitation of full participation and success of special education students by providing appropriate physical and/or social support while at Valley Kids.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Appropriately assist special education students with tasks related to the before and after school setting, grades K-5.
- Assists students as needed with physical tasks, e.g. taking off/putting on outerwear, assisting with breakfast/snack, assisting with transferring students from area to area, using the restroom, etc.
- Provides physical assistance as needed; this can include but is not limited to: lifting students, assisting with or performing catheterization procedures, changing diapers, performing transfers, e.g. from wheel chair to desk chair.
- As needed, become familiar with the strengths and challenges of students in order to provide appropriate support. This includes familiarization with student IEPs.
- Collect student related data as directed.
- Perform other duties as directed by the Director of Valley Kids.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- High school diploma or GED
- At least 60 college hours or successful completion of the Paraprofessional exam
- Previous experience working with children is preferred
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- 12 month position
- Split shift hours: 6:30 AM - 9:00 AM & 3:30 PM - 6:00 PM
- Shifts may be longer or continuous to accommodate school schedules and inclement weather days
- Reports to Director of Valley Kids
- Non-exempt
