Position Overview
As a Treatment Assistant, you will support our medical team by assisting with animal care and treatments, communicating with clients, and ensuring the hospital remains clean, safe, and Fear Free. You will work under the supervision of the Treatment Assistant Lead, Veterinary Tech Lead, Medical Director, or Practice Manager.
What You'll Do
- Provide restraint for small and large dogs, cats, and fearful or anxious pets using Fear Free techniques.
- Assist with treatments, feedings, hydration, and patient comfort.
- Maintain hospital cleanliness, disinfect work areas, and stock medical supplies.
- Monitor patients and report any concerns or changes.
- Ensure safety during pet walks and while handling cages.
- Stay alert and responsive to assistance requests across departments.
- Greet and assist clients with pets or large purchases.
- Communicate clearly with clients about their pet’s care and hospital protocols.
- Provide tours and explain our Fear Free practices with confidence and compassion.
- Maintain professionalism and empathy, even in stressful situations.
- Follow all cleaning protocols (daily, weekly, monthly).
- Maintain clean kennels, treatment rooms, and public areas.
- Perform laundry, waste disposal, and proper dilution/use of cleaning agents.
- Ensure the hospital environment is odor-free, quiet, and welcoming.
- Assist technicians by gathering supplies and cleaning post-emergency.
- Remain calm and act quickly in urgent situations.
Requirements
- Physically able to stand, walk, bend, twist, crouch, and lift at least 40 lbs.
- Able to follow instructions with or without direct supervision.
- Strong team communication and a willingness to ask for help when needed.
- Learn and use medical terminology, animal behaviors, and office software (Digitail).
- Excellent organizational, spelling, math, and customer service skills.
- Dependable, punctual, and presentable in uniform.
