Are you a transformational leader who thrives on inspiring teams, elevating safety, and reshaping how an organization approaches risk? Petticoat-Schmitt Civil Contractors, Inc. is searching for a Vice President of Safety and Risk Management to join our Executive Team and lead our mission to protect our people, manage risk, and continually improve the way we work.

Why You’ll Love This Role

In this high-impact position, you’ll set the vision for safety and risk management while leading talented field safety professionals, efficiency experts, and claims managers who are committed to making a difference every day. As a transformational leader, your influence will inspire change, drive cultural alignment, and ensure Petticoat-Schmitt remains a place where safety, ownership, and excellence thrive.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead with Vision: Provide strategic direction for safety, risk, and compliance, while inspiring teams to embrace a proactive safety culture.

  • Own the Field: Oversee safety audits, ensure time studies are conducted, and drive actionable improvements directly from the field.

  • Resolve Issues with Impact: Guide claims processing, investigations, and incident reviews—turning lessons learned into organizational change.

  • Inspire Teams: Mentor and develop the leaders of your safety, efficiency, and claims teams to think differently, act boldly, and own outcomes.

  • Champion Culture: Embed Petticoat-Schmitt’s core values—Accountability, Character, and Team—into every process and decision.

  • Transform Through Data: Use metrics, audits, and reports not just for compliance, but as tools for continuous improvement and innovation.

What We’re Looking For

  • 10–15+ years in senior safety, quality, or operational excellence leadership roles (construction or heavy civil experience preferred).

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in safety, quality, operations, or business a plus.

  • Strong understanding of OSHA, DOT, environmental regulations, quality systems (ISO), lean/Six Sigma, and continuous improvement.

  • Proven success in building high-performing teams and delivering measurable safety and operational results.

  • Executive presence with exceptional communication and change-leadership skills.

Why Petticoat-Schmitt?

  • We’re Employee-Owned: Here, you’re not just taking a job—you’re becoming an owner. Every team member has a direct stake in our success through our Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP). When the company thrives, you share in that success.

  • We Invest in People: Competitive pay, bonus opportunities, and full benefits including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, accident coverage, 401(k) with a 100% match on the first 4%, holidays, and PTO.

  • We Build More Than Infrastructure: We build careers, communities, and a culture of trust and excellence.

This is your opportunity to step in as a transformational executive—one who doesn’t just manage safety and risk but redefines it for the future of our company. Apply now and lead with vision, courage, and ownership.
