Position Summary
Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the Biostatistician will be responsible for performing basic analyses of research data from Study of Latinos (SOL) Ojos research studies.

Duties & Responsibilities


  • Under direction of Principal Investigator, write and run programs in SAS to provide descriptive summaries of database files, including frequencies, lists, and plots; examine data to track down potential data inconsistencies
  • Work with the Project Coordinator during primary data collection to maximize data integrity from clinical sites and reading centers
  • Write and run programs in SAS to carry out statistical analyses of biomedical data including categorical data, generalized linear models, longitudinal data, censored failure time data, nonparametric and parametric tests, and graphical analyses
  • Prepare clear and written output of basic analyses for other research faculty and staff
  • Under general supervision of Principal Investigator, document basic datasets, programs and output clearly to permit their checking and use by other biostatistics personnel, and for preparation of data in accordance with the NIH Data Management & Sharing Policy.
  • Continually learn to use and apply new statistical techniques necessary to meet the demands of funded studies
  • Participate in study staffing meetings
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications


  • A minimum of a Master's degree in biostatistics required.
  • A minimum of three years’ of work experience performing statistical analysis of biomedical or social science data is required. Degree in health research, epidemiology, public health, social sciences, or other quantitative discipline with 2-4 years of strong quantitative/statistical training or experience is strongly desirable.
Skills & Abilities:
  • Proficiency with SAS programming. Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, Power Point).
  • Previous experience with research and biomedical analysis required, including use of statistical methods to answer questions pertaining to topics in biology, public health, and medicine.
  • Previous experience in analysis of large, complex NIH cohort study data, including issues related to study sampling and weighting of data.
  • Proficiency in REDCap preferred.
  • Knowledge with linear and logistic regression, longitudinal analysis and survival analysis methods.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills.
  • Attention to detail required.
  • Ability to function in a team environment essential.
  • Must be able to prioritize workload and be self-directed.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects required.
