Visiting Instructor of Engineering
ABOUT THIS POSITION
Summary: The
Engineering Program at Colorado Mesa University invites applications for a
full-time, one-year temporary Instructor of Engineering position beginning January
2026 (or August 2025 for a prepared candidate). The successful candidate will
be a dynamic and student-focused educator prepared to teach lower-division
engineering courses within the mechanical, civil, or electrical and computer
engineering curricula. This position supports CMU's mission of providing
high-quality, hands-on undergraduate engineering education in a supportive and
inclusive environment.

- Teach a standard
instructional load of 12 credits of in-person lower-division engineering
courses and associated labs per semester -
Teach courses that may
include (but are not limited to) engineering CAD/drafting, geomatics and
surveying, introductory design, statics, solid mechanics, material
science, dynamics, circuits, or programming -
Participate in
department meetings, professional development activities within the
department and university, and contribute to program initiatives as
appropriate
-
Master's degree in
engineering or a closely related field from a regionally accredited
institution -
Interest and ability
to teach lower-division engineering courses -
Ability to effectively
engage students through active learning -
Demonstrated
commitment to and enthusiasm for teaching -
Effective
communication and organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications:
-
Ph.D. in engineering
or a closely related field from a regionally accredited institution and/or
5+ years of engineering industry experience -
Professional
experience or teaching background in mechanical, civil, or
electrical/computer engineering -
Familiarity with
active learning, project-based instruction, or hands-on lab environments -
Experience working
with diverse student populations -
Evidence of commitment
to undergraduate teaching and mentoring
