Vocational Specialist

Salary: This position follows the Collective Bargaining Agreement Salary Schedule of the Mental Health Workers, COTAs, & PT Assistants: HS Diploma + 30 credits AND 3 years working in Secondary Transition or employment services OR Bachelors degree, starting at $35,028 for the 25/26 SY

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7.5 hours/day, 190 days/year

Job Goal: To develop and provide quality employment preparation services to students eligible for special education.

Performance Responsibilities:
1. Assists the teacher, transition coach, or other professional as assigned in developing and maintaining a positive environment.
2. Acts as a positive social and emotional model for students and co-workers.
3. Provides coaching to CAIU job coaches and classroom staff members on vocational exploration and training.
4. Provides updates to teacher and transition coach on student and program progress.
5. Conducts vocational assessment activities and produces vocational reports.
6. Counsels students in career exploration, resume building, and job search processes.
7. Establishes a bank of local partner businesses for the purpose of vocational exploration and training.
8. Trains representatives of participating organizations for the purpose of complying with program guidelines and serves as a liaison between business partners and students.
9. Monitors student job locations for the purpose of ensuring compliance with pertinent child labor laws, insurance guidelines, and safety.
10. Transports students into the community using school vehicles to facilitate vocational exploration and training.
11. Provides direction and support in the management of student behavior and safety.
12. Assists in meeting the student's personal care needs as necessary.
13. Assists students to and from vehicles and within buildings or community, all of which may include lifting.
14. Monitors student performance and records data in a variety of vocational sites according to program guidelines for the purpose of identifying areas requiring additional training for developing and maintaining solid work habits.
15. Follows all established CAIU policies and administrative procedures.
16. Maintains confidentiality by refraining from discussion of student progress and problems as required in the CAIU Policy on Confidentiality of Information (FERPA).
17. Performs clerical and housekeeping duties as required.
18. Works to create, maintain and build positive working relationships with internal and external (district, community, agency) staff.
19. Follows assigned schedule including attendance, start and end times, and overall punctuality.
20. Adheres to all federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations, particularly as they relate to the Pennsylvania School Code.
21. Attends in-services, training, and meetings as directed.
22. Assume any other responsibilities as assigned by the Supervisor, Director, Executive Director or his/her designee.

Qualifications:

1. High School Diploma plus 30 college credits and at least 3 years working in Secondary Transition or employment services or Bachelor’s degree in related field.
2. Certified as a Qualified Paraprofessional, as required under Chapter 14, OR have the ability and willingness to become a Qualified Paraprofessional within the established timelines.
3. Trained in CPR, First Aid and AED and willing and fully able to utilize these procedures OR have the ability and willingness to become CPR, First Aid, AED certified and be willing and fully able to administer these procedures.
4. Full certification in Safe Crisis Management (SCM), Safety Care, or other restraint management system as required by the assignment.
5. Ability to lift/assist with lifting special needs children. Lifting may be up to 40 lbs without assistance and more with assistance.
6. Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
7. Computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
Preferred
8. Previous experience working with special needs population.
9. ACRE (Association of Community Rehabilitation Educators) Certification or other certification related to providing quality employment services for people with disabilities.
