Job Description:
The Water Distribution Technician performs a full range of general repairs and duties including the inspection, installation and maintenance of equipment associated with the water distribution system.
- Repairs and replaces broken water and sewer lines including transmission lines, distribution mains, and water service lines.
- Utilizes proper repair techniques to provide sanitary water, including disinfecting newly installed water pipes or parts used in repairs.
- Maintains, repairs, and replaces fire hydrants when required.
- Maintains control valves used to operate the water distribution system.
- Performs a variety of maintenance on gate/butterfly type valves.
- Locates and raises valves that are not exposed.
- Reads water atlases, construction blueprints, and other records to locate valves.
- Updates and modifies records following new installations of valves and other equipment used in the water distribution system.
- Tests, repairs and replaces meters of various sizes in the water distribution system as needed.
- Performs ship-to-shore connection/disconnection for water and wastewater services.
- Performs utility locates with electronic detectors to trace and mark water mains or services lines.
- Operates a variety of vehicles, equipment, and tools including service trucks, backhoe, concrete/ asphalt cutting saws, jackhammers and trench boxes.
- Operates light, medium, and heavy equipment used in maintenance of water or wastewater treatment facilities and systems.
- Performs work in confined spaces utilizing safety precautions prior to entering.
- Removes and replaces water distribution system equipment such as electric motors, pumps, valves of various sizes.
- Performs routine Preventive Maintenance (PM) functions on all types of water distribution components and equipment.
- Collects and sends out water samples for analysis.
- Utilizes Safety Data Sheets to identify chemical characteristics.
- Completes Work Orders daily and accurately.
- Initiates material requisitions to order parts/materials needed for repairs.
- Assists with material and labor estimates.
- Work also involves other duties as assigned
- Five years’ experience required relevant to the job description, including 3 years of verifiable experience troubleshooting water distribution system equipment to diagnose source of trouble and perform repairs required.
- State of Florida Class “E” driver’s license or equivalent is required.
- State of Florida Class 2 (or above) System Distribution Operator's license required or State of Florida Class C (or above) Water Plant Operator’s license.
Pay rate: $39.55 per hour
