About the Role

Reporting to the Senior Workplace Relations Manager – Process & Planning, this role provides technical workplace relations advice and support to the Workplace Relations team, the People Division, and operational leaders. You will help develop and deliver workplace relations strategies and solutions, support complex and sensitive employee and industrial matters, and provide reporting and analytics that inform decision-making and risk management.

This role is full-time and is based at 700 Collins Street, Docklands, with travel to operational sites as required. We believe great work can happen in different ways. Hybrid working arrangements are available and can be discussed as part of the recruitment process

About You

You are an experienced workplace relations professional who can exercise sound judgement, discretion, and resilience when managing sensitive and confidential matters. You combine deep employment law knowledge with strong case management, investigation, data interpretation, and stakeholder partnering skills. You communicate clearly, work collaboratively, and are comfortable supporting leaders in a complex operational environment.

What you will do

  • Manage the end-to-end internal complaints process in line with established procedures, supporting a fair, supportive, and trauma-informed employee experience.

  • Prepare workplace relations reporting and analytics, providing timely, accurate, and actionable insights on emerging trends and risks.

  • Provide advice, dispute resolution, and complex case management support across employee and industrial relations matters.

  • Develop policies, procedures, standards, training, and other resources that strengthen workplace relations capability, compliance, and risk management.

  • Build effective relationships across the People Division, operational teams, unions, and external stakeholders, and represent Metro before relevant tribunals if required.

Who you are

Mandatory

    • Demonstrated experience managing workplace relations issues in highly unionised environments.

  • Demonstrated experience managing and investigating complex and sensitive workplace complaints and workplace relations matters, including procedural fairness, trauma-informed practice, employment legislation, and workplace policy.

  • Demonstrated experience delivering accurate reporting and analytics, interpreting data, and identifying emerging trends and risks.

  • Deep knowledge of employment law and the ability to identify and manage related risks.

  • Sound judgement and discretion when managing highly confidential or sensitive information.

  • Strong stakeholder management, written and verbal communication, organisational, attention-to-detail, and problem-solving skills.

  • Advanced Microsoft Office knowledge and capability.

Desirable

  • Experience managing litigation and cases in the Fair Work Commission or similar tribunals.
  • A tertiary qualification in law, human resources, business, or another relevant discipline
