POSITION DESCRIPTION
SUMMARY: The Young Adult Support Specialist is tasked with supporting youth, ages 15-24, who come from refugee or immigrant families, walking alongside them as they navigate barriers to facilitate a positive integration into school, community, and the workforce. This could include working on digital literacy, language acquisition, soft skill training, career exploration, employment readiness training, and college readiness skills. The work will include working with individuals and groups. The ideal candidate is solution-oriented, kindhearted, innovative, and able to work in a diverse, ever-changing environment.
Hours will vary: 25 hours M-F 2:00pm – 7:30pm
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The major responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Develop and maintain relationships with new arrival youth and their families to create a welcoming and supportive environment; assess needs and strengths;
- Facilitate communication between families and relevant services or programs.
- Design and implement lessons and workshops for newcomer youth in career exploration, and job and college readiness.
- Help young adults prepare for life after high school, including FAFSA and college applications, college exploration, technical school and other work/career-related exploration and preparation.
- Organize community events and workshops to encourage youth and family involvement.
- Provide homework support as needed.
Qualifications:
- College degree preferred.
- Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
- Experience working with young adults.
- Competent digital literacy skills, including Microsoft Office suite.
- Able to work independently, good problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrate respect for and interest in building cross-cultural relationships, some experience preferred.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills.
- Experience in family engagement, social work, education, or related field.

Pay: $23.00 - $25.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20 – 25 per week
