Engineering Manager

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Engineering Manager based in Mexico.

Lead a backend engineering organization building high-scale systems for a rapidly expanding global payments platform.

You’ll oversee engineering managers and technical leads while driving execution, architecture, reliability, and people development.

The role combines strategic leadership with technical depth, ensuring backend services remain scalable, efficient, and highly available.

You’ll help shape integrations supporting hundreds of merchants and payment providers across complex global payment environments.

A key focus will be improving engineering efficiency, managing technical debt, and enabling accurate delivery of high-impact initiatives.

You’ll work in an AI-focused, innovative environment alongside a multicultural team distributed across Latin America.

Accountabilities

• Lead and manage the backend engineering organization, providing direction across engineering managers and individual contributor technical leads.
• Oversee the design, development, and maintenance of scalable backend services supporting integrations with hundreds of merchants and payment providers globally.
• Drive engineering execution and delivery, ensuring initiatives are accurately scoped, efficiently planned, and delivered to a high standard.
• Establish practices that promote high availability, reliability, scalability, and operational efficiency across backend systems.
• Guide architectural decisions and help build a modern, innovative engineering organization with sustainable technical foundations.
• Identify and reduce technical debt, balancing short-term delivery needs with long-term system quality and maintainability.
• Coach, mentor, and develop engineering managers and technical leads, helping them grow as technical and people leaders.
• Foster a culture of continuous improvement, encouraging teams to challenge existing approaches and find better ways of working.
• Support the development of a highly collaborative, innovative, and AI-focused engineering environment.
• Partner across the organization to navigate day-to-day challenges effectively and maintain strong alignment around engineering priorities.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience building and leading backend systems at scale, ideally within fintech, payments, or another complex technology environment.
• Proven experience managing and developing engineering managers, technical leads, and high-performing engineering teams.
• Strong technical understanding of backend architecture, distributed systems, scalability, reliability, and high-availability services.
• Experience delivering complex technical initiatives efficiently while maintaining a strong focus on quality and long-term maintainability.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers and leaders, develop talent, and build strong teams while maintaining high delivery standards.
• Strong communication and organizational skills, with the ability to navigate complex day-to-day situations and align multiple stakeholders.
• A proactive mindset focused on continuous self-development and continuous improvement, both personally and across the teams you lead.
• Strong ability to balance strategic leadership with sufficient technical depth to guide architecture and engineering decisions.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, agile, startup environment where innovation, adaptability, and ownership are highly valued.
• Passion for emerging technologies and an interest in applying AI-focused approaches to modern engineering organizations.
