Shopify Developer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Shopify Developer based in Mexico.

This is a full-time remote role for a Shopify specialist who will take ownership of a high-visibility e-commerce platform.

You’ll maintain, customize, optimize, and continuously improve the Shopify storefront across both desktop and mobile experiences.

The role combines hands-on development with security, performance, accessibility, and ongoing technical maintenance.

You’ll work closely with Marketing, IT, and Enterprise Systems teams to turn business needs into effective technical solutions.

As the internal Shopify expert, you’ll identify opportunities for improvement, resolve technical issues, and guide teams on platform capabilities.

The environment is collaborative and fast-moving, offering significant ownership within a growing organization.

Accountabilities

• Develop, maintain, and optimize Shopify themes, leveraging strong expertise in Liquid to deliver reliable and engaging storefront experiences.
• Own the implementation and resolution of technical requests from Marketing and IT, translating business needs into practical Shopify solutions and bridging technical gaps.
• Monitor and improve the storefront to ensure responsive design, accessibility, and full functionality across mobile and desktop experiences.
• Collaborate with IT and Enterprise Systems teams on security testing, addressing identified vulnerabilities and helping maintain a secure Shopify environment.
• Audit existing Shopify code and previous implementations to identify technical debt, optimization opportunities, and areas for improvement.
• Provide ongoing platform maintenance and security support, including bug fixes, theme updates, troubleshooting, and keeping current with Shopify and security best practices.
• Monitor platform functionality and proactively identify issues before they affect users or business operations.
• Provide technical guidance to support teams on Shopify administration and maintenance when required.
• Act as the organization’s Shopify subject matter expert, advising cross-functional stakeholders on platform capabilities, implementation approaches, and technical considerations.
• Participate in occasional travel of less than 5%, when business needs require it and with advance notice.

Requirements

• 3+ years of professional experience developing, maintaining, and managing Shopify stores or platforms.
• Extensive hands-on experience with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Liquid.
• Strong understanding of Shopify themes, theme architecture, customization, and implementation.
• Demonstrated experience developing Shopify APIs and integrations using GraphQL.
• Familiarity with GitHub and Shopify CLI and modern development workflows.
• Ability to operate confidently as the technical owner and subject matter expert for a Shopify environment.
• Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate ideas and requests from non-technical stakeholders into effective Shopify implementations.
• Experience working cross-functionally with Marketing, IT, and other business teams.
• Excellent written and verbal English communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with global teams.
• Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to platform security, reliability, accessibility, and continuous improvement.
• Ability to work independently in a fully remote environment and align working hours with the US Central time zone when needed.
• Ability to meet the physical requirements of a primarily desk-based role, including extended periods of sitting and occasional movement or handling of lightweight objects.
