Our Finance team plays a critical role behind the scenes, providing financial insight, stability, and support that enables our Co-op and stores to thrive. You’ll be joining a collaborative, forward-thinking team focused on continuous improvement and doing great work together.

Te Tūranga – About the role

As our Group Accounting Lead, you'll play a key role in ensuring the accurate and timely delivery of financial reporting, statutory compliance, and financial control activities across Foodies. Reporting to the Group Accounting Manager, you'll provide day-to-day leadership within the Group Accounting team while partnering across Finance and the wider business to provide accounting guidance and strengthen our ways of working.

You’ll also be working across:

  • Owning the end-to-end month end process including consolidated group reporting
  • Owning the day-to-day delivery of Group Accounting activities
  • Maintaining general ledger and balance sheet integrity
  • Leading the half year and annual statutory reporting and external audit activities
  • Applying NZ IFRS and providing accounting guidance
  • Driving process improvement, standardisation and automation
  • Leveraging SAP and finance systems to improve efficiency and reporting
  • Coaching and supporting the Group Accounting team

You'll ensure business initiatives are translated into sustainable financial processes, maintain robust controls and reconciliations, oversee the integrity of the general ledger, and partner closely with Finance stakeholders to identify and resolve process issues.

You'll bring strong technical accounting expertise, sound commercial judgement and a collaborative leadership style. Comfortable working in a complex environment, you'll be able to balance attention to detail with a broader business perspective while building trusted relationships across the organisation.

Ideally, you’ll have:

  • CA qualification, with a degree in Accounting, Commerce or a related discipline
  • Significant financial accounting experience within a large or complex organisation, including consolidated Group reporting
  • Strong experience delivering month-end and year-end close, statutory reporting, external audit and balance sheet control activities
  • Strong working knowledge of NZ IFRS, with the ability to apply accounting standards to complex transactions and business issues
  • Experience leading work through others, setting priorities, reviewing outputs and coaching team members
  • A track record of improving finance processes through simplification, standardisation, automation or technology
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and stakeholder management skills
  • Experience with SAP or comparable enterprise finance systems would be advantageous
