Job description

About the Company

Our client is a purpose-led New Zealand organisation operating in the environmental and climate space. With a strong focus on trusted, independently verified information, data quality and integrity are critical to its work.

The organisation is embarking on a significant transformation programme that will reshape how it operates and uses data over the coming years.

About the Role

This is an opportunity to shape the data landscape rather than inherit one that’s already been defined.

You’ll assess the current environment, define a pragmatic target-state data architecture and help establish how information should be structured, governed and moved between systems. You’ll also stay close to delivery, playing a practical role across migration, cleansing, testing and validation.

Skills & Experience
  • Senior-level data architecture experience, or a Lead/Principal Data Engineering background with strong architecture capability
  • Experience assessing current-state environments and designing pragmatic target-state data architectures
  • Strong data modelling, SQL and modern cloud/data fundamentals
  • Practical experience with data migration, cleansing, transformation, reconciliation, testing and validation
  • Strong understanding of data quality, governance, ownership, lineage and sources of truth
  • Experience working across multi-system environments, including APIs, integrations and SaaS/cloud platforms
  • Excellent stakeholder skills, with the ability to translate between business needs and technical solutions
Why Work Here?
  • Have genuine influence over an organisation’s future data landscape
  • Join a major transformation at a formative stage
  • Combine strategic architecture with practical delivery
  • Help establish trusted data foundations for BI, analytics and future AI opportunities
  • Work on meaningful challenges where data accuracy and traceability really matter
  • Join a purpose-led organisation working in the environmental and climate space
  • Work from Home flexibility, with regular Auckland or Wellington office engagement
This is a 4–6 month fixed-term opportunity. If you’re a senior data practitioner who enjoys understanding messy current states, defining what good looks like and then helping make it real, we’d love to hear from you.Apply now or contact Logan@talent.army for a confidential discussion.
