The Manager Operations – Pharmacy provides senior operational leadership across all Inpatient and Outpatient (ambulatory) pharmacy services at Novacare Hospital. The incumbent is accountable for safe, efficient, patient-centered medication management in full compliance with JCI/JCIA standards, ISO 9001, DRAP regulations, and hospital-wide policies approved by the Pharmacy & Therapeutics (P&T) Committee.
This role bridges clinical excellence and operational performance integrating people leadership, financial stewardship, quality governance, digital innovation, and strategic pharmacy development. It is a key enabler of Novacare's vision to deliver world-class, safe, and equitable healthcare.
1. Pharmacy Operations & Service Delivery
- Lead pharmacy operations across inpatient, OT, ER, outpatient, and satellite pharmacies, ensuring medication availability, efficient workflows, service standards, and timely resolution of operational issues.
- Conduct operational rounds and drive continuous service improvement.
2. Medication Safety, Quality & Compliance
- Lead MMU, medication safety, incident reporting, RCA/FMEA, CAPA, and controls for high-alert, LASA, hazardous, and controlled medications.
- Ensure compliance with JCI/JCIA, ISO 9001, DRAP, pharmacy laws, SOPs, audits, and accreditation requirements.
3. Formulary, Inventory & Supply Chain
- Support the P&T Committee and oversee formulary management, therapeutic substitution, drug utilization, procurement, storage, dispensing, and disposal.
- Manage inventory, forecasting, ABC/VEN analysis, expiry control, stock audits, cold chain, replenishment, and cost-effective medication utilization.
4. People & Financial Management
- Lead recruitment, onboarding, performance management, training, workforce development, employee relations, and retention of pharmacy teams.
- Support budgeting, monitor expenditure, identify cost-saving opportunities, and contribute to capital planning.
5. Clinical Pharmacy & Technology
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and pharmacists to strengthen medication reconciliation, ward rounds, discharge counselling, rational prescribing, and medication-use processes.
- Lead pharmacy adoption of HIS/CPOE/Pharmacy Information Systems and coordinate technology implementation with IT.
6. Governance, Stakeholders & Strategic Development
- Represent pharmacy in hospital committees and multidisciplinary forums; prepare performance reports and manage regulatory/professional stakeholder relationships.
- Support academic, research, strategic planning, innovation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Mandatory: PharmD or B. Pharm from an HEC-recognized institution
- Master’s degree in Clinical Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or Health Services Management is strongly preferred.
- MBA (Healthcare Management) is an additional advantage.
Experience:
- Minimum 8 years of hospital pharmacy practice, of which at least 3 to 4 years in a supervisory or managerial capacity
- Demonstrated experience across both inpatient and ambulatory pharmacy settings
- Experience in a JCI/JCIA-accredited or equivalent internationally accredited hospital is highly desirable
Skills
- Strong leadership, team management, and people development skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
- Sound knowledge of clinical pharmacy, drug distribution systems, and formulary management
- Proficiency in pharmacy/hospital information systems (HIS/CPOE/ERP) and MS Office
- Knowledge of JCIA/JCI, ISO standards, and national healthcare regulatory requirements
- Analytical and data-driven decision-making skills; financial acumen for budgeting
- Ability to manage multi-shift, multi-location pharmacy teams
- Understanding of medication safety, pharmacovigilance, and quality improvement
