Embedded Systems Engineer
Descrição da vaga
Embedded Systems Engineer (f/m/d)
Stratio keeps public transport running. We monitor fleet health in real time and tell the world's largest operators exactly what's going to fail before it does.
The role
You’ll join our Embedded Systems & Hardware team, the people behind Stratio’s Databox: the device at the heart of Stratio's zero-downtime mission.
You'll build and own the firmware that runs on the Databox, the device that turns what happens inside a vehicle into the data our AI depends on.
In this role, you will work at the intersection of software and hardware, developing C/C++ firmware on a multi-threaded RTOS, handling automotive communication protocols, hardware bring-up, and test infrastructure.
This role is dedicated to our remote tachograph data download project, so your day-to-day work will centre on building, running, and improving the systems that retrieve, process, and manage tachograph data remotely.
What your weeks look like
Firmware development
You build and debug C/C++ firmware running on the Databox's RTOS, taking features from idea to implementation with solid design patterns and a say in the architectural decisions behind them.
From requirements to design
You translate product requirements into technical designs, working closely with the team and the stakeholders who depend on what you build.
Debugging across hardware and software
You debug on target, using logic analyzers, oscilloscopes and CAN/serial-to-USB tools, and you work hands-on with automotive communication protocols such as J1939 and J1587.
You also support hardware bring-up and design alongside our hardware team.
Code reviews and technical discussion
You review code and take part in design discussions, giving and receiving feedback as a matter of routine.
Tools, test infrastructure and documentation
You help improve our development processes, tools and test infrastructure, and you document your work across the firmware lifecycle.
What we're looking for
Must have:
- BSc or MSc in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a similar field;
- Proven experience in embedded systems development with C/C++;
- Experience debugging embedded systems with an RTOS on ARM-based microcontrollers;
- Working knowledge of analogue and digital electronics;
- Knowledge of unit testing and CI methodologies;
- Familiarity with version control systems;
- Experience translating requirements into technical solutions;
- Fluency in English.
Bonus Points:
- Interest or experience in the automotive industry;
- Experience with Zephyr RTOS
- Knowledge of ISO 26262, MISRA C, or ASPICE;
- Experience with Python programming.
What this is not
Not an application-level role, and not a purely software one. This is real-time, multi-threaded firmware close to the hardware, so expect to spend real time at the bench on bring-up and debugging, and to help decide what gets built, not just implement someone else's spec.
Why this is interesting
You'd write firmware that leaves the building, the Databox runs on real commercial vehicles, for customers paying for it to work. And you'd follow a problem the whole way: from an architectural decision, to the code on the RTOS, to a logic analyzer on the bench with the hardware team.
We expect you to:
According to our internal progression framework, as a mid, you will be expected to:
