About the Team

You will be part of collaborative team of designers who share a passion for textiles, craftsmanship, and creating beautiful products. Working closely with Design, Merchants, and Sourcing, you'll help drive sample development from concept through production while contributing to a culture that values innovation, quality, and continuous learning.

About the Role

As Assistant Designer, you will play a crucial role in supporting the textile Design/Product Development Team. You will work closely with Designers to ensure developments are communicated to vendors overseas. You will support senior design team with day-to-day tasks in design/ development process and assure all deadlines and key calendar dates are met.

Responsibilities

Seasonal Engagement

  • Assist Designers to organize and prepare for the weekly Product Development meetings and Work Sessions
  • Assist and support seasonal product presentations to the team and senior management
  • Assist Designers with developing specs and concept boards

Product Development Strategy

  • Excitement for learning in Textiles
  • Ability to provide insights that aligns with team objectives.
  • Understand effective processes and procedures to align workflow and results.
  • Proactively support calendar to recognize milestones and key dates.
  • Recognize key fashion trends and understand what competition is doing
  • Maintain and organize development samples both physically and digitally
  • Tracks department samples and ensures samples are approved in a timely manner

Team Collaboration

  • Utilize Product Lifecyle Management(PLM) shared with cross-functional teams to review status of development process
  • Has strong cross-functional partnership with merchants, sourcing, PD Operations team, and color team.
  • Has ability to clearly communicate the needs with vendor partners and sourcing in order for vendors to execute design vision
  • Support department business needs and is encouraged to bring new ideas for specs and contribute inspiration
  • Have fast learning and problem solving skills to identify existing product issues that may arise

Admin Support

  • Organize and coordinate cross-functional meetings with internal partners.
  • Open, sort, and organize cross-category shipments.
  • Maintain and organize the company archive; support designers with sending, pulling, and tracking archived product.
  • Assist with physical product movement, including rugs and other samples, between designated areas.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs daily, as the role includes regular physical activity related to product handling and sample organization.

Criteria

  • Bachelor’s degree in Textile Engineering, Textile Design, Fashion Design, or a related field.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiarity with design software/tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite) is a plus.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs daily, as the role includes regular physical activity related to product handling and sample organization.
  • This role requires being onsite in the San Francisco office

The expected starting pay range for this position is $60,000 - $65,000. Applicable pay ranges may differ across markets.
