Job description

Come join our amazing team of leaders, learners, and world-class legal professionals accelerating Intuit’s mission of powering prosperity for consumers and small businesses all over the world. Our Enterprise Privacy team works hand in hand with our business partners to build a privacy program that keeps pace with a rapidly evolving regulatory landscape, including the rise of AI-driven products and features.

Intuit is hiring an Assistant General Counsel, Privacy & Data Governance to lead data governance strategy across our data-driven products. Reporting directly to the Deputy General Counsel for Enterprise Privacy, you will partner closely with our Privacy Regulatory Compliance team to translate privacy compliance requirements into practical data governance standards, and you will work directly with product development leaders, the technology organization, legal, and the wider privacy team to ensure new products and features are built on compliant, efficient, and well-governed data flows from the ground up. You will be Intuit’s go-to resource on data governance strategy, helping the business build and scale new data-driven products responsibly.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Intuit’s go-to expert on data governance — advising business and technology partners on data classification, lineage, quality, and lifecycle management, and translating governance requirements into scalable technical and process controls.
  • Partner closely with the Privacy Regulatory Compliance team to translate privacy compliance requirements into practical data governance standards, architecture principles, and controls that product and engineering teams can build against.
  • Work directly with product development leaders, the technology organization, Product Counsel, and Privacy Product Counsel to ensure new products and features are designed around compliant, efficient, and well-governed data flows from the outset.
  • Advise on the application of privacy-by-design principles (data minimization, purpose limitation, transparency, and customer choice) to new and evolving technologies and product data architectures.
  • Lead data governance workstreams — including data mapping, data classification, and retention/lifecycle practices — in partnership with engineering and data platform teams.
  • Act as a trusted data governance advisor to cross-functional teams, providing actionable guidance that enables the business to build and scale new data-driven products responsibly.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships across Product, Engineering, Technology, the Privacy Regulatory Compliance team, Product Counsel, and Privacy Product Counsel, driving alignment across competing points of view to reach practical, efficient outcomes.
  • Stay current on emerging data governance practices and technologies, including AI/ML data use, and translate them into scalable data architecture and governance approaches for new products.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of relevant legal experience (in-house and/or at a law firm), with reasonably broad exposure to privacy regulatory and compliance work.
  • Demonstrated depth of expertise in data governance — e.g., data classification and lineage, data quality and lifecycle management, data mapping, and data minimization/retention practices — and experience translating governance frameworks into practical controls in partnership with engineering and product teams.
  • Strong working knowledge of US state and federal privacy laws (e.g., CCPA/CPRA, GLBA, etc.) and familiarity with international frameworks (e.g., GDPR, PIPEDA), sufficient to translate compliance requirements into data governance and product architecture requirements.
  • Technologically adept, with working fluency with AI and emerging technologies.
  • Technical fluency sufficient to engage credibly with product, engineering, and data organizations on data governance strategy, system design, and data flows — you don’t need to write code, but you need to be conversant with those who do.
  • Proven ability to translate complex legal and regulatory requirements into practical, scalable data governance standards and product requirements.
  • Experience partnering cross-functionally with product development, engineering, and legal/compliance stakeholders to embed governance requirements early in the product development lifecycle.
  • A learning mindset and comfort operating in ambiguity as laws, data architectures, and technology continue to evolve.
  • Concise and efficient communicator.
  • JD and membership in good standing with at least one US State Bar.

Preferred Qualifications

  • IAPP privacy or AI certification (CIPP/US, CIPP/E, or AIGP) preferred, but not required.
  • Experience advising on these issues in an AI-forward technical environment, and leveraging AI workforce tools to improve the speed and quality of execution.
  • Familiarity with data governance tooling (e.g., data catalogs, lineage tools, data quality frameworks).
  • Experience working within a product development lifecycle (drafting and reviewing business and product requirements documents) to embed governance and privacy requirements at the design stage.
