JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible for and supervises the treasury operations team in Birmingham, handing the cash management of certain Southern Company subsidiaries as well as backing up the Atlanta-based treasury operations group. This involves managing the daily cash positioning of the company, managing the banking relationships, lines of credit, cash forecasting and working capital management. The position is also responsible for supporting reporting needs from Treasury Operations.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Treasury, Finance, or Accounting required
  • Must have 2 -3 years of experience leading, coaching, or directing the work of others.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet critical deadlines.
  • Knowledge of cash positioning, liquidity management, banking services, and financial controls.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with internal stakeholders and banking partners.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Support management and help guide direct reports through driving automation and transformation initiatives.
  • Hands-on experience with Kyriba TMS (cash, payments, bank account management) is a plus.
  • Ability to leverage technology, automation, and AI-enabled tools to improve operational efficiency, reporting accuracy, documentation, and business processes.

MAJOR

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage banking accounts and relationships with 6-8 banks ranging in size from small community banks to large money center banks.
    • Includes negotiating bank fees.
    • Meeting with bank officers.
    • Resolving issues between internal stakeholders and banking partners.
    • Discussing new Treasury products and services in the marketplace and bringing back suggestions to management.
  • Working as a part of the management team to provide oversight of Treasury Operations services for Southern Company and its subsidiaries.
    • Cash Concentration from smaller banks to aggregate cash.
    • Determining Cash Position.
    • Moving aggregate cash to various accounts to settle cash position.
    • Making various large dollar payments such as:
      • Debt
      • Payroll/PPP
      • SCS Intercompany
      • Taxes
      • Lease
      • Investment/CP transfers
      • Credit Facility
      • Other requests as needed
    • Maintaining General Ledger treatment for cash transactions.
    • Daily balancing and reconciliation of cash transactions.
    • Daily reporting of cash and liquidity position (including bank balances, investment balances, CP outstanding and available credit).
    • Reviewing Accounts Payable payment registers to ensure files are submitted correctly to the banks.
    • Make check deposits.
    • Provide daily activity files to Account Recon for their reconciliation process.
    • Notify Accounting of incoming receipts, as well as other various reports.
  • Lead support on reporting requests for Treasury Operations
  • Works with management team to delegate ad hoc reporting requests to analysts
    • Works with treasury and other subsidiaries to develop and implement new reports as needed
    • Provide month-end journals for treasury items. Additional reporting to support month-end processing includes:
      • Backs up Team Lead for debt accounting journal for Southern Company system
      • Bank Account Balance information
      • Supports Liquidity Solutions Project Manager to provide investment balance reports (including interest income) and short-term debt reports (accruals, notional balance reports)
      • APC-Daily recondition of Collections in Transit account and Office Deposit adjustments
  • Lead, coach, and develop Cash Operations employees, including performance management, work prioritization, and career development.
