Controls Engineer
Job description
Controls Engineer II (Automation & PLC Systems | Manufacturing)
We’re looking for an experienced Controls Engineer who knows that great automation is about more than making equipment run—it’s about designing reliable systems that make manufacturing safer, smarter, and more efficient.
This is a hands-on engineering role where you’ll take ownership of automation projects from concept and design through fabrication, installation, testing, and implementation. You’ll design PLC-controlled systems, specify electrical and control components, lead cross-functional projects, and provide technical guidance to other Controls Engineers and technicians.
You’ll work closely with Engineering, Operations, Equipment, and external vendors to develop new automation solutions and improve existing manufacturing systems. Just as important, we’re looking for someone who can independently solve complex technical problems, lead projects, and turn manufacturing challenges into practical engineering solutions.
What You’ll Do
- Design, evaluate, troubleshoot, and improve automated manufacturing equipment and processes to increase efficiency, reliability, and system performance
- Design PLC-controlled systems and develop electrical schematics, specifications, and control system requirements for in-house automation projects
- Specify electrical and control equipment including PLCs, sensors, wiring, control panels, and other components required for new automation systems
- Lead the design and development of new automation equipment in partnership with cross-functional project teams
- Research and propose new automation equipment and technologies, evaluating existing internal resources and equipment before recommending new solutions
- Coordinate with vendors and Purchasing to evaluate, procure, and implement automation equipment and technologies
- Develop and execute proof-of-concept evaluations to validate proposed automation solutions
- Lead cross-functional project teams responsible for equipment development, problem-solving, modifications, and implementation
- Provide technical direction and guidance to Controls Engineers and technicians during equipment assembly, installation, troubleshooting, and implementation
- Provide technical support to production areas when automation and controls issues arise and develop effective solutions to minimize operational disruption
- Maintain detailed equipment performance logs and use performance information to identify opportunities for reliability and process improvements
- Coordinate the design and development of electrical instruments, devices, and control systems for manufacturing applications
- Support equipment installation, testing, commissioning, and startup to ensure systems meet design and operational requirements
- Develop and maintain technical documentation including electrical schematics, equipment specifications, reports, and presentations
Why Join Us?
You’ll have the opportunity to design and implement the automation systems that shape the future of our manufacturing operations. From developing PLC-controlled equipment and specifying control systems to leading new automation projects and bringing those systems into production, your work will have a direct impact on manufacturing capability, efficiency, and reliability.
This is an opportunity for an experienced Controls Engineer to take ownership of meaningful automation projects while working alongside a talented team of engineers, technicians, and manufacturing professionals.
If you’re a controls engineer who enjoys designing new systems, solving complex automation challenges, and seeing your engineering work become a functioning part of the production floor, we’d like to connect.
