Data Engineer
Job description
As a Software Engineer at the Professional Technical 4 level, you will serve as a senior data engineer designing and building enterprise data solutions that support reporting, analytics, automation, and data-driven decision making across the laboratory.
This role combines hands-on engineering with data architecture and technical leadership. You will work with stakeholders, analysts, architects, and engineers to translate complex business needs into scalable data solutions. You will help shape the architecture and strategy of our enterprise data platform, modernize our data engineering capabilities, and explore opportunities to incorporate AI into how we develop, manage, and use enterprise data.
Responsibilities
- Design and build scalable data pipelines, integrations, data models, and enterprise data solutions.
- Help architect and evolve enterprise data warehouse, analytics, and cloud data platforms.
- Work directly with stakeholders and technical teams to translate business needs into effective data solutions.
- Develop data models that support reporting, analytics, automation, AI, and other enterprise data needs.
- Explore and apply AI-assisted approaches to data engineering, including opportunities to improve data modeling, transformation, quality, development, and automation.
- Apply software engineering best practices including testing, source control, code review, and CI/CD.
- Improve data quality, governance, reliability, performance, and maintainability.
- Help define technical standards, architecture, and the long-term direction of the enterprise data platform.
- Provide technical project leadership to other engineers.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and identify opportunities for modernization and innovation.
This is a fully remote position.

Position Requirements
Required Skills and Qualifications
- PA4: Minimum of a Bachelor's degree and 6+ years of related experience, or a minimum of a Master's degree and 4+ years, or equivalent.
- US citizenship: To perform the essential functions of this position successful applicants must provide proof of U.S. citizenship, which is required to comply with federal regulations and contract
- Experience with Microsoft Azure data technologies, including Fabric, Synapse, Data Factory, or Databricks.
- Experience with Microsoft SQL Server and enterprise data warehouse environments.
- Experience with Power BI, semantic models, or other business intelligence platforms.
- Experience with Informatica or similar ETL/ELT platforms.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Purview or other data governance and cataloging tools.
- Experience with APIs, cloud or hybrid data architectures, and enterprise application integration.
- Experience contributing to data architecture, analytics strategy, or technology roadmaps.
- Experience applying AI or AI-assisted development tools to data engineering, analytics, software development, or related workflows.

Full timeThe expected hiring range for this position is $106,455.00 - $166,069.80.Please note that the pay range information is a general guideline only. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as, but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, business considerations, internal equity, and external market pay for comparable jobs. Additionally, comprehensive benefits are part of the total rewards package.
