This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, which manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Director, Data Analytics based in the United States.
The Director, Data Analytics will lead commercial data strategy, performance analytics, reporting, and insight generation within a dynamic, purpose-driven biotechnology environment focused on advancing cancer treatment. Acting as a strategic partner to Commercial leadership, this individual will transform complex pharmaceutical data into actionable insights that inform business strategy and commercial decisions. The role combines deep expertise in patient-level claims analytics with strong commercial judgment, analytical curiosity, and cross-functional leadership. Working closely with Sales, Marketing, Market Access, Finance, Insights & Analytics, and IT/Data Management, the Director will uncover performance drivers, evaluate treatment adoption, and identify opportunities for improvement. This position will also shape commercial data governance, measurement frameworks, and advanced analytics capabilities, ensuring that reporting supports meaningful business outcomes. The successful candidate will help translate data into clear recommendations that support commercial execution and ultimately contribute to better-informed decisions in oncology care.
Accountabilities
- Serve as a strategic analytics partner to Commercial leadership, translating business questions into analytical approaches, insights, and actionable recommendations.
- Proactively identify commercial performance trends, opportunities, risks, and emerging business questions by integrating multiple data sources and evaluating key business drivers.
- Lead patient-level claims analytics to identify patient populations, new patient starts, treatment adoption, utilization, persistence, treatment patterns, and patient journeys.
- Develop and validate analytical methodologies for patient identification and treatment initiation, accounting for claims coverage, reporting lag, coding limitations, longitudinal tracking, and other data constraints.
- Integrate claims data with sales, specialty distribution and pharmacy, CRM, healthcare professional and account, market access, and other relevant datasets to build a comprehensive view of patient and commercial performance.
- Lead the development and continuous improvement of launch KPIs, commercial performance metrics, and diagnostic measures in collaboration with cross-functional stakeholders.
- Establish and oversee commercial data strategy, governance, stewardship, definitions, and business rules, partnering with internal teams and external vendors to support data sourcing, integration, quality, and appropriate use.
- Define reporting and visualization requirements based on business needs and decision-making priorities, providing analytical direction to teams and partners responsible for dashboards and reports.
- Use Tableau or similar business intelligence platforms to investigate reporting outputs, identify trends and anomalies, and evolve dashboards beyond static reporting into practical decision-support tools.
- Lead or oversee advanced analytics, including segmentation, targeting, patient journey analysis, treatment adoption and persistence, trigger identification, promotional effectiveness, and return-on-investment assessments.
- Provide analytical leadership and oversight to external partners, critically evaluating methodologies, assumptions, findings, and conclusions.
- Develop compelling executive-level narratives and presentations that translate complex analyses into clear business implications, strategic options, and recommended actions.
- Bachelor's degree required; an advanced degree such as an MBA, MPH, MS, or a related discipline is preferred.
- At least 10 years of relevant experience in pharmaceutical or biotechnology commercial analytics, data strategy, reporting, insights, or consulting. Oncology experience is strongly preferred.
- Deep knowledge of U.S. pharmaceutical commercial data, including longitudinal patient claims and familiarity with specialty distribution and pharmacy, sales, CRM, healthcare professional and account, payer and market access, EMR, laboratory, and other relevant datasets.
- Demonstrated experience using patient-level claims data to identify patient populations, new patient starts, treatment patterns, adoption, persistence, and patient journeys.
- Strong analytical curiosity and critical-thinking skills, with the ability to identify patterns and anomalies, develop hypotheses, connect insights across datasets, and determine their business implications.
- Proven ability to move beyond descriptive reporting to uncover underlying performance drivers and translate analytical findings into meaningful recommendations for commercial leadership.
- Strong working knowledge of Tableau or a comparable business intelligence platform. Dashboard development experience is beneficial but is not the primary focus of the role.
- Familiarity with analytical tools and data-query concepts; experience with SQL, SAS, R, Python, or similar programming languages is a plus but not required.
- Strong commercial acumen and the ability to work consultatively across Sales, Marketing, Market Access, Insights & Analytics, Finance, and other functions in a highly matrixed organization.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to synthesize complex analytical findings and present clear conclusions to senior leaders.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, influence stakeholders without direct authority, and thrive in a fast-paced, evolving commercial environment.
- Must reside within the United States.
- Base salary: Anticipated annual base pay range of $201,500–$260,500. The final offer will depend on qualifications, skills, experience, and organizational needs.
