DIVISION

OVERVIEW

Mission Logistics is the transportation and logistics division of Goodwill of Southwestern Pennsylvania. The division supports Goodwill’s internal transportation Mission Logistics was created by leveraging Goodwill’s existing transportation resources and available fleet capacity to develop a flexible, cost-effective logistics operation. A significant responsibility of Mission Logistics is supporting Goodwill’s Donated Goods and Retail operations. The division provides transportation services needed to move donated goods and other materials throughout Goodwill’s retail and distribution network.

What distinguishes Mission Logistics from a traditional transportation company is its connection to Goodwill’s broader mission. Mission Logistics operates as a social enterprise, meaning its business activities also help support Goodwill's work in the community. Revenue generated through the operation contributes to Goodwill programs that provide employment, training, education, and other resources designed to help individuals achieve greater independence and employment success.

POSITION

SUMMARY

The Driver Dispatch Supervisor leads drivers and daily dispatch operations for an assigned Mission Logistics asset line. The supervisor plans and adjusts workload, assigns drivers and equipment, monitors real time execution, and resolves service disruptions while maintaining clear communication with drivers, customers, and internal partners. The position is accountable for driver performance, payroll and attendance administration, training and development, safety and regulatory compliance, equipment readiness, and continuous improvement in service, labor, route, and asset efficiency.

The supervisor is a member of the Mission Logistics leadership team and provides cross fleet asset line support, participates in a rotating on-call schedule, and after-hours coverage as assigned. The supervisor is flexible to participate in and adjust to business needs, regulation, or organizational priorities.

Status: Regular, Full-time, Non-exempt.

Location: This position is based in the Goodwill SWPA North Versailles, PA

External Hiring Range: $50,000 - $60,000 annually.

Schedule: AM/PM Rotating On-Call for Evenings and Weekends

Travel: Travel within Goodwill SWPA terriroty may be necessary.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Included but not limited to:

Driver Leadership and Performance Management:

  • Directly supervise assigned drivers and establish clear expectations for attendance, conduct, safety, service, productivity, and communication.
  • Participate in and provide recommendations in interviewing and selection, advancements and assignments, discipline and separations.
  • Address performance and conduct concerns promptly and consistently and coordinate corrective action with the Senior Manager and People Services.

Workforce Management, Training, and Payroll:

  • Use ride-alongs, observations, telematics, incidents, customer feedback, and performance data to identify development needs and skill gaps to create practical coaching and development plans
  • Review and approve assigned employees time records, paid time off, attendance occurrences, payroll exceptions, and supporting documentation accurately and on time.
  • Coordinate onboarding, qualification, route familiarization, policy training, safety training, and position specific development for assigned drivers.
  • Plan daily and near-term staffing coverage and address call offs, vacancies, leave, and implement changes to control overtime and service risks while escalating as appropriate.

Workload Planning Routing and Dispatch:

  • Lead the development and management of daily schedules for internal and external customers, aligning service commitments with driver availability, qualifications, equipment capacity, and hours-of-service requirements.
  • Oversee transportation execution by optimizing routes and assignments, managing disruptions and changing priorities, and coordinating clear communication and handoffs among drivers, customers, and internal partners to support on-time, efficient, and cost-effective service.

Real Time Operations and Service Recovery:

  • Respond promptly to delays, breakdowns, accidents, missed pickups, route disruptions, and other emergencies to minimize service interruption.
  • Escalate serious safety, employee relations, customer, financial, or reputational risks to the Senior Manager under established protocols.
  • Monitor fleet activity through available transportation and telematics systems and maintain awareness of operational risks.

Safety DOT and Regulatory Accountability:

  • Partner with the Senior Manager and appropriate internal resources on safety meetings, audits, incident reviews, and prevention plans.
  • Model, communicate, and enforce company safety policies, safe work practices, personal protective equipment requirements, and applicable transportation regulations.
  • Immediately escalate serious hazards, injuries, accidents, suspected impairment, regulatory risk, or unsafe equipment and prevent operation when conditions require.

Fleet and Equipment Readiness:

  • Coordinate maintenance, inspections, repairs, documentation, and return to service prioritieswith the administrative role, Senior Manager, drivers, and vendors.
  • Monitor fleet readiness and availability, ensure drivers report defects or unsafe and noncompliant equipment, and coordinate assignments to meet daily operating requirements.

Customer and Cross Functional Partnership:

  • Represent Mission Logistics professionally and reinforce customer focused decision making within assigned operations.
  • Build effective working relationships with internal customers, external customers, drivers, distribution teams, retail teams, vendors, and support departments.
  • Communicate service risks early, provide accurate status updates, and follow through until issues are resolved.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Yea rs of Experience:

  • High School Diploma AND 4 years of relevant experience required.
  • Associates degree in Transportation, Logistics, Business Operations other related field AND 3 year of relevant experience required.
  • Bachelors degree in Transportation, Logistics, Business Operations other related field AND 3 year of relevant experience required.

Required:

  • Working knowledge of routing, fleet management, equipment maintenance coordination, spreadsheets, databases, telematics, and transportation management
  • systems.
  • Practical knowledge of applicable Department of Transportation requirements, driver qualification, hours of service, electronic logs, vehicle inspection reporting, and incident reporting.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead employees, make time sensitive decisions, communicate clearly, manage conflict, use data, and maintain
  • accurate confidential records.

REQUIRED CLEARANCES, LICENSES, AND CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Qualified candidates must have a valid driver's license, active insurance policy, and reliable transportation for local travel.
  • Candidates are expected to complete background checks assigned by Goodwill SWPA, including a National Criminal Background check, prior to their first day of employment.
  • Candidates are expected to provide current, valid clearances (Child Abuse Clearance, FBI Fingerprints Clearance, and PATCH) prior to their first day of employment.
