Position Summary: The Environmental, Health, Safety and Sustainability Manager is responsible for ensuring that the goals of a safe, healthy, and environmentally compliant and sustainable work environment are actively pursued in an effective and conscientious manner. Be responsible for providing leadership, strategy and direction while integrating business unit EHS&S policies, programs and processes in support of operational excellence and continuously improving an interdependent EHS&S culture. Provide strategic & tactical assurance of compliance with all laws, statutes, regulations and appropriate standards at all locations both domestically and internationally. Promote sustainable manufacturing processes and products and exemplify CARBO’s dedication to its Core Values.
Key Roles / Responsibilities:
- Ensure that CARBO’s domestic manufacturing facilities and subsidiaries maintain compliance with environmental, health and safety regulations, including MSHA, OSHA, EPA, and individual state regulatory agencies.
- Oversee EHS regulatory permitting and other requirements for the ongoing operation of facilities. Perform oversight on EHS&S reporting. (air, water, waste, incidents, etc.).
- Coordinate the company’s sustainability activities including tracking of emissions, reporting to appropriate stakeholders, and identification of climate-related risks and opportunities for the company.
- Conduct and/or coordinate industrial hygiene sampling, EHS compliance auditing, EHS incident investigations, and insurance matters for worker’s compensation and property. Develop and maintain EHS&S standards and assist in training at appropriate organizational levels as required.
- Lead the product stewardship effort to assure accurate chemical hazard communication is provided and product registrations are obtained for CARBO products around the world.
- Interface with regulatory agencies and business leaders to direct EHS efforts in support of business goals.
- Responsible for the investigation, measurement and evaluation of EHS conditions and carrying out relevant research, development, planning, design, advisory and related engineering activities.
- Assure the high level of priority that a CARBO operation places on the safety and health of our personnel and our process operations.
- Serve as an EHS consultant to CARBO and subsidiaries by providing assistance with assessment and development of new processes and products for deployment to the marketplace.
- Attract, hire, develop, and retain appropriate human resources for execution of EH&S activities and administrative activities.
- Build sufficient depth of talent in team to cover natural employee turnover
- Assure that fair and even-handed progressive discipline practices are utilized
- Provide annual performance appraisals for direct reports
- Implement career development/broadening opportunities for top performers
- Foster continuous improvement initiatives throughout team
- Assure compliance and ethical practices in operations (including FCPA)
- Direct the annual budget planning cycle for the EH&S Function
Required Education, Experience, andQualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, the Sciences, Environmental Engineering or related field.
- 10+ years’ experience managing the EHS function in an industrial environment.
- In depth experience and knowledge in Environmental Permitting activities, State and Federal EHS Regulations and Safety management.
- Demonstrated expertise in the successful delivery of EHS results.
- Professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong customer-facing skills, ability to influence and motivate leaders and employees, excellent oral and written communication & analytical skills, leadership skills, self-motivation.
- Ability to travel up to 25% of the time is required.

- Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
- Positions self to install equipment, including under desks.
- Moves throughout the building to access files.
- Must be able to comprehend and follow written and oral instructions.

- Must be able to use discretion and independent judgment as needed.
- Must be able to speak clearly on the phone and to fellow workers.
