Job description

Overview

The Electronics and Firmware Engineer will design and develop hardware and firmware/software programs (Windows and embedded systems) for torque, gyro, strain gage, and other measurement applications. This person will utilize advanced math processes to convert analog and digital values into algorithms that calculate torque value, rotation, position and orientation of hand tools and power tools along with other physical attributes. Systems level responsibility for electronics and product software/firmware design (including writing code, calibration methods, specification writing, code testing, and tool/system testing). Support current product line as needed.

This is an on-site position at Sturtevant Richmont, a division of Snap-on Incorporated, located in Carol Stream, IL. Sponsorship and relocation are not available for this position.

Salary range: $112,000 to $132,000 depending on experience.

Responsibilities

• Develop software and firmware for new products, product enhancements, and sustaining current products. • Develop electronics designs and PCBAs for products with microcontrollers and other ICs using a variety of protocols including UART, SPI, and I2C. PCB development using Altium.• Develop software and firmware systems, including mathematical analysis and algorithms, for use in developing new products and product sustainment.• Prepare thorough and accurate documentation for release to manufacturing and for internal product design records. Maintain an engineering record to document work activity in support of company’s product development and IP goals• Test and validate work product to assure product performance and quality• Work closely with electronics suppliers to ensure proper transition to production and resolve issues as necessary• Work with manufacturing, QA, and repair groups to resolve problems.• Develop an understanding of the company’s products and their applications• Collaborate with other engineers across multiple sites• Other related projects and/or tasks as required

Qualifications

The additional requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. To perform this job successfully, the applicable candidate must be a team player.

  • Bachelor’s and 5 years related experience or Master’s degree and 3 years related experience in computer science, mathematics, or engineering. EE degree is preferred.
  • Effectively use the C-language within IAR toolchains for ARM Cortex-M and MSP430.
  • Detailed knowledge of Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, 802.15.4 d other wireless technology, messaging protocols, and wired interfaces including UART, SPI, and I2C.
  • Familiar with lab equipment including oscilloscopes, logic probes and debug probes. Ability to write procedures, routine reports and correspondence.
