Position Summary
Northwood Solutions, Inc. is seeking an experienced Financial Accounting Leader to lead our Financial Accounting team and provide oversight of general ledger accounting, financial close, reconciliations, reporting, and related internal controls.
This position combines people leadership with technical accounting direction. The successful candidate will develop team capabilities, establish priorities, resolve obstacles, and ensure accounting responsibilities are completed accurately, thoughtfully, and on schedule.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, coach, and develop the Financial Accounting team.
- Establish priorities, assign responsibilities, balance workloads, and monitor progress.
- Oversee month-end and year-end close activities, journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
- Review financial information for accuracy, completeness, and reasonableness.
- Research complex or unusual accounting transactions and recommend appropriate solutions.
- Maintain effective controls over accounting records, reconciliations, close activities, and supporting documentation.
- Identify and investigate accounting, reporting, process, and control concerns.
- Coordinate with other teams to strengthen financial processes and cross-functional handoffs.
- Develop and maintain clear accounting policies, procedures, and supporting documentation.
- Lead or participate in accounting-system implementations, enhancements, testing, and process changes.
- Support audit, tax, and other financial information requests.
- Promote cross-training, knowledge transfer, and sustainable backup coverage throughout the team.
Financial Accounting at NSI owns record-to-report activities, including general ledger accounting, journal entries, close, independent reconciliations, financial statements, audit support, and accounting policy.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Progressively responsible financial accounting experience.
- Demonstrated experience leading and developing accounting professionals.
- Strong knowledge of general ledger accounting, financial close, reconciliations, reporting, and internal controls.
- Ability to research and recommend solutions to complex accounting matters using sound professional judgment.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience with accounting software platforms.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong critical-thinking, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining accuracy and a broad organizational perspective.
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA or other relevant professional certification.
- Experience supporting multiple legal entities or intercompany accounting.
- Experience with accounting-system implementations, integrations, or process automation.
- Experience supporting audits, tax reporting, and complex year-end activities.
- Proximity to Alpena, Michigan.
