Fishery Observer Support Liaison

A.I.S., Inc. (AIS) is a national scientific services firm supporting maritime activities requiring certification of compliance with environmental regulations as well as collecting data for use by Federal, State, Municipal, and other government agencies along the US coastline.
Primary Function:
AIS is looking for a Fishery Observer Support Liaison to support the Fisheries Research and Monitoring Department, primarily Northeast Fisheries programs. The incumbent will serve as a dedicated resource for sea-going employees with a primary focus on improving employee retention, morale, engagement, professional development, and overall quality of employment. The position will maintain regular contact with sea-going staff to better understand the challenges they experience, help connect employees with appropriate company resources, identify trends affecting retention and performance, and develop initiatives that strengthen employees’ connection to AIS. The position will also provide administrative support to coordinators, including timecard review, receipt follow-up, incentive tracking, recruiting support, and other employee-related activities. The position is supervised by the Vice President of Fisheries and will require travel to AIS offices, ports, training locations, and other field locations.
Duties/
Responsibilities
Employee Support, Engagement, and Retention
- Maintain regular contact with sea-going staff to understand morale, workload, employment challenges, and opportunities to improve the employee experience.
- Serve as a point of contact for employees and connect them with AIS resources.
- Conduct onboarding, retention, and exit interviews to identify factors affecting satisfaction, performance, and turnover.
- Develop and coordinate retention, engagement, resiliency, and community-building activities, including remote and in-person events. Track performance of initiatives.
- Travel periodically to ports, offices, and training locations to meet with field staff and better understand working conditions and concerns.
Workforce Tracking, Performance, and Recognition
- Track retention, turnover, morale, performance, data quality, and other workforce trends and provide recommendations to Program Management.
- Administer and track spot bonuses, performance incentives, and other employee recognition programs.
- Work with Program Management to identify employees who may benefit from additional support, training, mentoring, or recognition.
Professional Development and Recruiting
- Identify and promote training, mentoring, cross-training, and career opportunities at AIS.
- Help identify high-performing employees for expanded responsibilities or advancement.
- Assist with recruiting, interviewing, and onboarding Observer and Monitor candidates.
- Provide feedback on candidate expectations and factors associated with successful hires and retention.
Administrative Support
- Review and approve employee timecards as assigned and coordinate corrections before payroll deadlines.
- Follow up on missing receipts, expense documentation, and other outstanding administrative requirements.
- Maintain records related to retention, engagement, incentives, interviews, and professional development.
- Provide administrative support that allows coordinators to focus on scheduling, vessel coverage, logistics, and other operational responsibilities.
Additional Program Support
- Develop employee communications, surveys, presentations, and training materials.
- Participate in recruiting events, training sessions, employee meetings, and other program activities.
- Perform other related duties and ad-hoc assignments as directed.
- Maintain certifications.
Compensation: Candidates will be paid an hourly rate to be negotiated, and total compensation will vary depending on candidates’ availability. This is a full–time position. AIS benefits package includes health and dental insurance, vacation, sick and holiday benefits.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be available 40 hours per week (Mon – Friday)
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
- 0-1 years of experience performing clerical duties
- 0-1 years of experience performing administrative duties.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous fishery observer experience
- Familiarity with ADP WorkForce Now
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel
Travel:
- Travel as needed, not more than 25%
