Frontend Engineer - Top Secret
Job description
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Frontend Engineer - Top Secret based in United States.
This role offers the opportunity to build next-generation frontend applications supporting critical defense and national security missions. You will create responsive, intuitive interfaces that turn complex operational data into clear, actionable experiences. The work spans real-time data, large geospatial datasets, interactive 2D and 3D maps, and mission-focused visualizations. You will help shape frontend architecture using React, TypeScript, and modern engineering practices. Performance, security, reliability, and usability will be central to the solutions you build and improve. You will collaborate closely with designers, product owners, backend engineers, systems engineers, and mission users. This is a high-impact environment where your technical expertise contributes directly to software supporting critical national missions.
Accountabilities
- Help define and evolve the architecture of complex frontend applications using React, TypeScript, and modern state-management patterns.
- Build reusable, maintainable interfaces for real-time data analysis, visualization, and mission-focused workflows.
- Develop high-performance 2D and 3D mapping and visualization capabilities using technologies such as OpenLayers, CesiumJS, WebGL, or comparable frameworks.
- Create interfaces capable of handling substantial geospatial datasets, real-time feeds, multiple map layers, and other data-intensive workloads.
- Diagnose and optimize frontend performance, including rendering, memory consumption, network activity, and application responsiveness, particularly on hardware-constrained systems.
- Apply asynchronous programming, web workers, and efficient data-processing techniques to support demanding visualization and analytical workflows.
- Integrate APIs, cloud-native services, authentication mechanisms, and secure data pipelines in partnership with backend and DevOps teams.
- Collaborate with UX/UI designers, product owners, systems engineers, and mission users to deliver intuitive and effective user experiences.
- Write maintainable, well-tested code; participate in technical design discussions and code reviews; and promote frontend engineering standards.
- Evaluate technologies and identify opportunities to improve the application platform and overall engineering practices.
- Mentor junior and mid-level engineers and contribute to a collaborative, high-performing technical culture.
Requirements
- U.S. citizenship and an active Top Secret security clearance are required.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field, plus 5+ years of professional software engineering experience with significant frontend development; additional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Significant professional experience building frontend applications with React and TypeScript.
- Strong knowledge of modern JavaScript, including ES6+, asynchronous programming, and contemporary frontend development practices.
- Experience designing and implementing reusable, maintainable user interface components.
- Experience working with geospatial data, mapping technologies, or data visualization, including technologies such as GeoJSON, KML, raster or vector tiles, coordinate reference systems, geospatial APIs, OpenLayers, CesiumJS, MapLibre, Mapbox, or comparable tools.
- Demonstrated ability to diagnose and improve browser performance, including rendering, memory usage, network activity, and application responsiveness.
- Experience developing automated tests with tools such as Jest, Cypress, Playwright, or comparable frameworks.
- Strong communication, collaboration, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work effectively in a mission-focused engineering environment.
- Experience with secure or regulated cloud environments, including AWS GovCloud, is preferred.
- Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud-native application deployment is preferred.
- Knowledge of DoD cybersecurity or compliance requirements, including applicable Impact Level requirements, is a plus.
- Experience with 2D/3D geospatial visualization using CesiumJS, Three.js, WebGL, or related technologies is desirable.
- Experience with custom WebGL shaders, GPU-accelerated visualization, real-time or streaming data, geospatial databases, spatial analysis, or geospatial web services is advantageous.
- Experience mentoring engineers or leading frontend technical initiatives is a plus.
Benefits
- Annual salary range of $103,500–$181,100, depending on qualifications, experience, and other relevant factors.
- Medical, dental, and vision insurance.
- Paid time off and company holidays.
