What’s the role?

The Global Logistics Projects Manager leads the implementation of strategic logistics projects and programs within an international ZEISS environment, ensuring delivery in accordance with defined timelines, quality expectations, and budget requirements. This role provides technical leadership to the relevant departments, project teams, and external partners involved in the assigned projects and programs. Key responsibilities include developing work instructions, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), IT architecture concepts, CSOP contributions, training materials for ZEISS Shared Service Centers (SSCs) and Strategic Business Units (SBUs). Within the scope of approved projects and programs, the position coordinates with internal clients and stakeholders to obtain required signatures on contract documents with strategic logistics service providers and IT partners, ensuring alignment with business objectives, governance requirements, and project deliverables.

Here’s what you’ll do:

  • Plan and manage large-scale international logistics projects by establishing project structures, organizational charts, schedules, contractual milestones, work packages, scope of delivery, target costs, deadlines, and project launch activities.
  • Lead project execution and controlling activities to ensure project participants, internal departments, contractual partners, suppliers, and customers remain aligned on interfaces, deliverables, milestones, project status, corrective actions, financial targets, and contractual obligations.
  • Select, coordinate, and professionally guide project participants based on required expertise, suitability, and qualifications to support successful project delivery.
  • Deliver assigned projects and programs on time, within agreed quality standards, and in accordance with approved budgets and business expectations.
  • Provide follow-up support for completed projects, including second-level support and clarification of operational or implementation-related questions after project handover.
  • Contribute to the development of IT architecture concepts for new or modified end-to-end logistics processes across multiple IT platforms and applications.
  • Maintain effective collaboration with strategic logistics service providers, IT partners, ZEISS SBUs, SSCs, and relevant internal departments to support consistent execution of global logistics projects and programs.
  • Manage relationships with key internal stakeholders across ZEISS SBUs and SSCs, identify logistics project opportunities, and support the acquisition and scoping of customer-driven projects.
  • Review, clarify, and translate customer requirements into actionable project specifications, engaging internal contacts and external partners to assess technical, IT-related, economic, contractual, and timeline feasibility.
  • Coordinate proposal preparation by defining interfaces, requirements, IT and business conditions, contract considerations, and implementation options while identifying and resolving potential risks related to availability, reliability, security, cost, scope, and delivery commitments.
  • Coordinate with the appropriate internal departments and external advisors to clarify applicable legal, tax, and customs requirements related to logistics projects and contractual arrangements.
  • Ability to travel 30% - 50%

Do you qualify?

  • University degree in logistics, supply chain management, industrial engineering, business informatics, business administration, or a comparable field of study; advanced or international education is preferred.
  • Minimum of five years of professional experience in supply chain management, logistics, or global project management within an internationally operating organization.
  • Demonstrated experience leading large-scale, cross-functional, and international logistics or SCM projects from planning through implementation and post-go-live support.
  • Strong knowledge of project management methods, end-to-end logistics processes, and IT-enabled supply chain solutions; SAP SCM module knowledge or certification is preferred.
  • Ability to evaluate complex project requirements across technical, IT, economic, ecological, contractual, and scheduling dimensions and translate them into practical, business-oriented solutions.
  • Experience working with strategic logistics service providers, IT partners, internal customers, and contractual partners in a global business environment.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, stakeholder management, and intercultural collaboration skills, with the ability to represent company interests while balancing differing business objectives.
  • Familiarity with Lean Management principles or continuous improvement methods to support process optimization and operational efficiency.
  • High degree of intrinsic motivation, ownership, adaptability, and willingness to learn in a complex and evolving global logistics environment.
  • Fluent English language skills required; additional language capabilities are an advantage in supporting international collaboration.

The annual pay range for this position is $84,000 – $104,000

The pay offered for this role may be influenced by factors such as job location, scope of role, qualifications, education, experience, & complexity/specialization/scarcity of talent.

This position is also eligible for a performance bonus or sales commissions. ZEISS also offers robust benefits, including medical plans, retirement savings plan and paid time off.
