Job description

The Last Mile is where Amazon’s global fulfillment network meets the customer’s doorstep. As part of this mission-critical team, you will help redefine the speed and precision of our delivery operations, building the technologies that move millions of packages daily. We are looking for creative software engineers who thrive on complex, high-stakes challenges and are ready to innovate within our Last Mile Technology (LMT) and Station Tech organizations.

In this role, you won’t just write code; you will be the architect of solutions that empower our "on-ground rockstars"—the associates, managers, and drivers who navigate the final stretch of the delivery journey. Your work will scale across Amazon Logistics (AMZL) and Global Specialty Fulfillment (GSF), focusing on reducing cognitive load and eliminating decision points through automation. By building tools that prioritize high-impact tasks and correct operational defects in real-time, you ensure we consistently meet our customer SLAs despite the growing complexity of our network.

As a successful candidate, you will own the entire hardware development lifecycle—from design and documentation to deployment and operations. You will have the autonomy to build optimized systems that drive site throughput and operational quality on a global scale. If you are a self-driven engineer who relishes the challenge of operating mission-critical systems in a fast-paced, collaborative environment, come join us. It is still Day 1 in Last Mile, and we are ready to work hard, have fun, and make history.

Key job responsibilities

  • Lead electrical design and optimization for modules, assemblies, and sub-systems — including design considerations for system integration, manufacturability, testability, reliability, and cost.
  • Develop electrical schematics and provide oversight for component placement and layout activities of printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs) — including component selection, signal and power integrity review, and functional circuit simulation
  • Develop, execute, and automate electrical test plans — including bring up, verification, validation, and interoperability
  • Integrate sensors (cameras, microphones, accelerometers) and wireless modules (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth/BLE, Zigbee, Cellular/5G).
  • Lead implementation of dedicated hardware accelerators, such as NPUs (Neural Processing Units) or specialized DSPs, to allow machine learning models to run directly on the device.
  • Conduct troubleshooting, root cause analyses, and implement mitigation strategies throughout the product lifecycle — including design modifications, factory test coverage, and firmware behaviors
  • Develop hardware/firmware interfaces and contribute to IIoT solutions, including edge-to-cloud architectures, industrial communication protocols (OPC UA, MQTT), and data analytics pipelines
  • Partner across engineering, manufacturing, and business stakeholders to document, analyze, and prioritize functional specifications while balancing technical feasibility against business objectives
  • Manage relationships with external vendors and manufacturing partners

A day in the life

Every year, we set ambitious goals, translated into quarterly plans and executed through methodical sprints. We start each day with a standup to track progress, remove blockers, and coordinate as a team. The rest of the day is reserved for deep work: dedicated time for design, documentation, and development. While you own your projects end-to-end, you’ll regularly engage in design and code reviews to sharpen our collective output. Depending on the project stage, you may also conduct onsite testing at our Last Mile Stations, ensuring our customers are fully equipped to operate and maintain the solutions we engineer.

Delivery is changing fast, and as more people deliver packages to more places than ever before, we're laying the architectural foundation that will power it all for years to come. If you love hard problems and want your work to make a real difference, we'd love to have you on this journey with us.
