Job description

Our Foundation

Mercantile Bank was founded by entrepreneurs who believed building strong relationships and communities is accomplished through collaboration and innovation. It’s more than being a financial institution, it’s being a trusted ally and community partner. As Michigan’s largest community bank, our roots are deeply embedded in the diverse communities we serve. Our commitment to our customers and community is at the core of all we do.

As an employee of Mercantile Bank, you will receive competitive compensation, bonus opportunities, and best-in-class medical benefit options. With a minimum of 3 weeks’ vacation, sick time, 11 paid holidays, generous 401k match of 5%, company paid life insurance, tuition reimbursement, IVF and adoption assistance, zero-interest loans for fitness equipment and business attire, discounted bank services, employee stock purchase plan, 529 savings plans, health savings accounts, flexible spending accounts, legal protection, exceptional training and development opportunities, and encouragement to connect with community through volunteer opportunities.

Core Responsibilities

As an HCM Operations Specialist, you help ensure MercForce HCM clients receive accurate, timely, and compliant payroll operations by supporting key systems, data, and processing controls. You’ll coordinate system administration across tools (CRM, iSolved, and related platforms), monitor integrations and releases, and resolve operational issues with clear documentation. You’ll also support payroll funding workflows (wires, ACH, reversals, 401(k) web uploads), contribute to reporting and data integrity efforts (including Power BI portal support), and provide backup coverage for essential payroll and tax activities.

Required

qualifications

  • 1–12 months of related experience
  • Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, communication, and client service skills
  • High attention to detail; ability to manage competing deadlines
  • Experience reviewing payroll totals, balances, rates, and related calculations

Apply to bring your operational focus and service mindset to a team that values accuracy and accountability.

A Typical Workday

Your day runs Monday–Friday, 8am–5pm on-site (with the opportunity to work from home up to two days/week, once training is completed) in Wyoming, MI. You’ll start by checking dashboards and queues to confirm overnight integrations and scheduled processes completed as expected, then prioritize any exceptions. Throughout the day, you’ll shift between system touchpoints—updating tickets and notes in the CRM, validating data used for reporting, and coordinating communications around upcoming platform changes. You’ll partner with teammates and technical contacts to close out issues, keep documentation current, and ensure clients receive timely updates. As deadlines approach, you’ll set aside focused time for balancing and verification work, then wrap up by confirming key items are ready for the next processing cycle.

Benefits Snapshot

Mercantile Bank offers a benefits package designed to support your health, time off, and financial goals, including Medical, Dental, and Vision coverage; 401(k); Life Insurance; Health Savings Account (HSA) and Flexible Spending Account (FSA) options; Paid Time Off; Competitive Salary; and Employee Discounts.
