HR Assistant
River City Environmental (RCE) is looking for an organized, energetic, and people-focused HR Assistant to join our team! This position will primarily support our recruiting efforts, while also providing backup support to HR with basic administrative and employee-related tasks. This is a fully on-site role, Monday - Friday, 8 AM to 4:30 or 5:00.
This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working with people, staying organized, and helping build a strong team. The ideal candidate is proactive, detail-oriented, comfortable communicating with candidates and employees, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
What You'll Do
Recruiting – Primary Focus
- Coordinate and support the full recruiting process from job posting through onboarding.
- Post and maintain job advertisements across various recruiting platforms.
- Source and identify potential candidates through job boards, recruiting sites, community organizations, schools, trade programs, and other resources.
- Review applications and resumes and conduct initial candidate screenings.
- Communicate with candidates throughout the recruiting process and maintain a positive candidate experience.
- Schedule interviews and coordinate communication between candidates and hiring managers.
- Follow up with hiring managers regarding open positions and candidate status.
- Maintain accurate recruiting records and applicant information in UKG and other recruiting systems.
- Help develop and maintain recruiting pipelines for hard-to-fill positions.
- Participate in job fairs, recruiting events, community outreach, and other recruiting activities.
- Assist with reference checks, background checks, pre-employment requirements, and other hiring steps.
- Help identify new and creative ways to attract qualified candidates.
HR Support
- Provide backup support to the HR Manager and HR team with routine HR administrative tasks.
- Assist with new-hire onboarding and employee paperwork.
- Help maintain accurate and organized employee records.
- Assist with employee file documentation and document management in UKG.
- Respond to basic employee questions and direct more complex questions to the appropriate HR team member.
- Assist with benefits, leave, and other HR administrative processes as needed.
- Help prepare employee communications, forms, and HR documents.
- Assist with HR projects, audits, and special projects as assigned.
- Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive employee information appropriately.
What We're Looking For
- Previous experience in recruiting, HR, administrative support, customer service, or a related field preferred.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent organization and attention to detail.
- Comfortable making phone calls and communicating with candidates and employees.
- Ability to manage multiple open positions and competing priorities.
- Strong follow-through and the ability to stay on top of tasks without constant supervision.
- Comfortable learning and using HR, recruiting, and computer systems.
- Professional, approachable, and able to build positive relationships with employees, candidates, and managers.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise good judgment with sensitive information.
- A proactive attitude and willingness to jump in and help wherever needed.
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screening (includes THC)

In this role, success means keeping our recruiting process moving, maintaining strong communication with candidates and hiring managers, building qualified candidate pipelines, and ensuring hiring-related tasks don't fall through the cracks. You will also serve as an important backup to HR, helping keep routine HR processes organized and running smoothly.
