IT Business Analyst Containerboard and Recycling – PL 11
Pay Rate:
$99,000 - $110,000
Multiple factors, including Individual experience, skills and abilities will determine where an employee is ultimately placed in the pay range. Variable pay may provide additional opportunities for financial awards. This job is eligible to participate in IP’s annual and long-term incentive plans.

The Job You Will Perform:
Key Accountabilities
A business analyst supports product owners and bridges business needs and delivery teams by providing context, translating priorities into requirements, and ensuring solutions align with business goals.
- Background & Domain Expertise
Experience in a technical product environment
- Domain knowledge including understanding of technology and systems, knowledge of industry trends and familiarity with business strategy and goals for given product
Communication, Collaboration & Team Enablement
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Help agile development team members gain a deeper understanding of the business benefits and objectives behind each user story, feature and project
- Leads projects associated with reporting, analytics, and applications for the Containerboard business
Requirements & User Story Development
- Assists product owners with translation of business and customer objectives into specific requirements
- Writes user stories that require heavy business context
Scope, Change & Validation
- Facilitates scope change discussions and provides recommendations to product owners
- Assists product owners in validating that business requirements are met
Stakeholder Partnership & Vendor Enablement
- Shares and documents business context and expertise with managed service providers (MSP) to assure business needs are met
- Creates a partnership with business counterparts and acts as an advisor on how to best create a solution for business outcomes
- Responsible for delivery and rollout of key business reporting/analytics solutions and applications.
The Skills You Will Bring:
Education and General Experience:
- Bachelor's degree (preferably in computer science, business, or another technical field)
- 4+ years of IT experience
- 1-3 years product management, business analysis, or other relevant technical or functional experience
Functional Expertise and Experience
- Define system scope and objectives based on user needs and a strong understanding of business processes and industry requirements.
- Supports business process redesign and documentation for new and enhanced technology solutions.
- Translates high-level customer requirements into functional and/or technical specifications.
- Understands end-to-end system behavior and downstream functional impacts based upon proposed changes to a system.
- Educates IT teams on business direction, goals, and drivers behind requirements.
- Executes end-to-end systems analysis and evaluates how technology choices affect business outcomes today and in the future.
- Leads or assist with user acceptance testing
Technical:
- Experience with/Ability to learn Business Intelligence tools and technologies, such as SAP BW, SAP Analysis for Office, Fabric, Power BI, Power Automate, Power apps
- General understanding of Relational Database structures and SQL syntax. Ability to query, analyze, and validate data
- Ability to learn and understand new technologies to improve business performance such as AI assistants like Copilot, Claude and GitHub
- Builds solid relationships with business partners and seeks input from appropriate decision makers / stakeholders on important issues involving a technology solution
- Excellent communication skills and ability to translate technical concepts to non-IT audiences
- Experience with/understanding of SAP APO Planning & Scheduling and SAP Deliver as well as understanding of IP Supply Chain operating model and supply chain concepts
Responsibilities
- Under general direction, formulates and defines systems, scope and objectives based on both user needs and a thorough understanding of business systems and industry requirements.
- Participates in the business process redesign and documentation as needed for new and/or upgraded technology.
- May translate customers' high level requirements into functional and/or technical specifications.
- Educates IT organization on direction of the business.
- Competent to work on all phases of systems analysis while considering the business implications of the application of technology to the current and future business environment.
- Limited understanding of global system implications to issues and processes associated with the system.
- May instruct, direct and check the work of business analysis personnel.
- May act as a team leader on selected assignments to include: preparation of simple project plans, coordination of multiple resources, and reporting project status.
- Typically has 4 to 6 years of experience.
