Summary
Implements educational and training programs to increase staff knowledge and skills using a variety of educational methods in a variety of settings.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
- Assesses, identifies, and prioritizes staff learning needs and designs or recommends appropriate educational programs to address identified needs.
- Plans, implements, and evaluates training and educational programs to support compliance with SOV policies and applicable state and federal requirements.
- Conducts classroom and in-person competency-based training for staff, including skills fairs, mandatory education, and annual skills competency evaluations for CNAs and other direct-care staff; uses standardized validation methods such as return demonstrations and written validation; coordinates remediation and re-evaluation when competency is not demonstrated; and emphasizes high-risk clinical practices including infection prevention, medication administration, wound care, falls prevention, changes in condition, emergency response, and safe resident handling.
- Develops and maintains an annual education and competency plan based on regulatory requirements, organizational priorities, quality data, survey findings, facility needs, and identified performance gaps.
- Ensures nursing practices are performed in accordance with applicable state and federal requirements and SOV policies, procedures, and standards.
- Provides oversight and support for Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) and Assisted Living (AL) clinic operations to promote consistent clinical processes, regulatory compliance, and coordination with facility nursing leadership.
- Provides corporate orientation to new employees and role-specific onboarding, education, and operational support for newly appointed Directors of Nursing and Assistant Directors of Nursing.
- Develops and supports facility-based preceptors and clinical mentors to promote consistent orientation, competency validation, and ongoing support for newly hired nursing staff.
- Maintains attendance records and tracks completion of required continuing education, training, and in-services conducted across the communities; maintains a corporate education and competency tracking system and provides routine completion and compliance reports to the Director of Clinical Services and facility nursing leadership.
- Audits facility documentation and clinical practices to support compliance and identify educational needs.
- Instructs and tracks CPR and First Aid classes for community employees.
- Participates in the strategic planning process as assigned.
- Leads and supports ongoing facility survey readiness through preventative compliance reviews, mock surveys, survey binders, readiness trackers, staff interviews and preparation, observation of care and services, identification of potential risk areas, development of corrective action plans, follow-up monitoring, and support during regulatory surveys.
- Partners with facility leadership to trend mock survey results, audit findings, complaints, incidents, and quality indicators; prioritizes improvement opportunities; and verify that corrective actions and education are implemented and sustained.
- Reviews regulatory updates, survey findings, policy revisions, incidents, adverse events, complaints, audit findings, and identified clinical concerns to determine educational needs and provide timely focused education, competency follow-up, and communication of required practice changes to facility leadership and staff.
- Supports corporate and facility Continuous Quality Improvement initiatives at the direction of the Director of Clinical Services, including committee participation, education, implementation, monitoring, and follow-up on identified improvement opportunities.
- Evaluates the effectiveness of education and competency programs through audits, observations, post-training evaluations, quality data, and follow-up monitoring and revises education plans when expected outcomes are not achieved
- In emergency/pandemic situations, this position may be expected to fill in other roles as needed to provide the necessary care to our population that we serve

Education and/or Experience
- Must be an RN or BSN with at least one year of supervisory and teaching experience in a Long-Term Care environment.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
- Must be a Registered Nurse in the State of Ohio.
