Job description

The Lead Field Engineer is responsible for overseeing the successful configuration, commissioning, and delivery of complex audiovisual systems, ensuring they meet design intent, performance standards, and zero-defect quality expectations. Serving as the senior technical authority in both staging and field environments, this role provides leadership across project teams, drives resolution of complex technical challenges, and ensures alignment between Engineering, Operations, and Project Management. The Lead Field Engineer establishes and enforces best practices, mentors and develops Field Engineers, and plays a key role in process standardization and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance quality, efficiency, and scalability across projects.

ORGANIZATION

This position reports to the Field Engineer Manager and is an individual contributor

PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

System Configuration and Commissioning

  • Equipment verification in the staging lab and field.
  • Technical issue resolution in the field either from proper configuration through communication with the manufacture or identification and replacement of failed equipment.
  • DSP configuration and audio adjustments
  • Network verification.
  • Load and test control system programing

Documentation and Communication

  • Attend project kickoff meetings and update meetings.
  • Complete Commissioning documentation (AV9000 checklist and report).
  • Complete daily reports and communicate onsite needs to Project Manager and Project Coordinator.
  • Document network deployment and configuration.
  • Build configuration guides and document processes for deployment of specific equipment.

Continual Improvement

  • Attend team meetings and contribute to problem resolution and continued team improvement.
  • Function as one of the highest escalation and knowledge points for less experienced team members.
  • Track projects and their phases to help better deploy and commission them.
  • Work to follow other projects and ensure that they are following process and are successful.

EDUCATION & CERTIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, audio production technologies or related field/experience.
  • CTS Certification – Required
  • AQAV CQT

EXPERIENCE

  • 5-10 years of experience in the AV industry with a minimum of 3 years of commissioning experience. Leadership background is preferred
  • Experience in commissioning using ISO 9001 or AV 9000 standards
  • Strong understanding of project lifecycles in the commercial AV industry
  • Strong written communication skills specifically report writing and performance documentation. Candidate should be able to describe complex issues in written format.
  • Ability to read system drawings
  • Leadership experience

SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • High attention to detail and the ability to track details across complex systems.
  • Must speak fluent English.
  • Must be able to build and maintain relationships with team members in a remote work environment.
  • Must be able to manage time and function autonomously in a remote work environment.
  • Self-driven with strong leadership skills.
  • Troubleshooting, especially around complex systems and programs.
  • Organization and data disciplined.
  • Familiar with Xcel and or Smartsheets, Microsoft Word, Power Point
  • Must be able to obtain a passport and travel internationally.
  • Must be willing to travel up to 50%.
