WHAT YOU'LL DO
The Logistics Manager provides operational leadership for dispatch, cross-dock activities, transportation, and fleet operations. This position directs the dispatch team and cross-dock managers, coordinates company and third-party drivers, and manages carrier relationships to support safe, accurate, and timely delivery service. The Logistics Manager is also responsible for fleet planning, regulatory compliance, cost control, performance reporting, and continuous improvement. In addition, this position serves as the designated support for the Warehouse Manager, providing operational coverage and decision support as needed.
Transportation, Dispatch, and Carrier Management
- Lead dispatch operations and coordinate delivery schedules, routes, and driver assignments to meet customer and operational requirements.
- Manage third-party drivers and carrier partners, including scheduling, service coordination, safety and compliance expectations, performance monitoring, issue resolution, and delivery accountability.
- Monitor company and third-party drivers for adherence to schedules, safe-driving practices, work rules, and service expectations.
- Coordinate transportation priorities with cross-dock, warehouse, sales, and customer service teams to support efficient material movement and on-time delivery.
- Investigate transportation incidents, accidents, service failures, and delivery concerns, and support corrective actions through resolution.
Fleet and Regulatory Compliance
- Recommend appropriate vehicles for company transportation needs, including vehicle type, size, intended use, acquisition, replacement, and disposal.
- Oversee the purchase, lease, maintenance, repair, registration, and disposal of company vehicles, including specifications, supplier evaluations, and negotiations.
- Establish and maintain preventive maintenance and repair programs to support fleet reliability, safety, and cost control.
- Maintain required Department of Transportation (DOT), HAZMAT, licensing, registration, and company records.
- Maintain and monitor company GPS and routing systems and ensure required personal protective equipment is available in company vehicles.
- Ensure compliance with Steiner standard operating procedures, company policies, and applicable warehouse and driver work rules.
Leadership, Reporting, and Continuous Improvement
- Provide operational direction to the dispatch team and cross-dock managers, establish priorities, and support effective coordination across logistics functions.
- Support the recruitment, selection, onboarding, and training of employees within the assigned area of responsibility.
- Prepare and provide management reports related to budgets, schedules, fleet maintenance, service performance, operational risks, and progress against objectives.
- Develop and implement methods to reduce cost, improve efficiency, strengthen service performance, and increase operational reliability.
- Use Steiner business systems, routing tools, GPS applications, Microsoft Office, email, and phone systems effectively.
Warehouse Manager Support Responsibilities
- Serve as the designated support for the Warehouse Manager during absences, schedule gaps, or other operational coverage needs.
- Support daily warehouse operations, including receiving, order staging, shipping, material flow, housekeeping, and aisle organization.
- Coordinate warehouse priorities and available staffing to maintain safe, accurate, and timely order processing.
- Address operational issues involving inventory discrepancies, damaged or non-conforming material, customer orders, and carrier or delivery concerns.
- Reinforce safety requirements, warehouse work rules, standard operating procedures, and clean and organized work-area expectations.
- Communicate warehouse status, service risks, staffing concerns, and unresolved issues to the Warehouse Manager and operations leadership.
- Provide operational direction and support
WHAT WE'LL NEED FROM YOU:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Five years of trucking, delivery, or logistics experience, with emphasis on medium-duty truck operations.
- Working knowledge of DOT and HAZMAT regulations, vehicle licensing requirements, and transportation safety practices.
- Knowledge of LTL pricing and processes preferred.
- Strong negotiation, organization, time-management, problem-solving, and multitasking skills.
- Basic financial and decision-analysis skills.
- Working knowledge of vehicle systems and basic mechanics, including the ability to identify when major repairs may be required.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and the ability to learn Steiner routing, GPS, and business systems.
- Effective verbal and written English communication skills.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand on concrete surfaces for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, including large or bulky items.
- Ability to perform bending and twisting motions.
- Ability to push and pull fully loaded manual pallet jacks and carts.
