Summary

The Gateway Manager is a managerial role in which the main functions are the supervision of assigned employees, responsible for consumable purchasing, financial budgeting, and control. The position is also responsible for resource production planning, occasional unscheduled non-supervisory work serving as a backup during staff shortages as an exception to the normal duties.

  • Recruit, interview, hire, and train direct reports
  • Oversee the work and assignments of direct reports
  • Provide constructive and timely performance feedback
  • Handle discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy

Duties/

Responsibilities

  • Manage, operate and maintain all aspects of the Globalstar satellite earth station.
  • Manage small technical working group.
  • Manage and maintain strong technical relationships with service providers and Globalstar Ground Ops team and Engineering Technical Support teams.
  • Follow and maintain Gateway documentation and procedures.
  • Maintain detailed knowledge of the Gateway Systems and Components.
  • Ensure established preventative maintenance routines are rigorously followed.
  • Provide direction and hands-on support for all the gateway systems.
  • Occasional unscheduled non-supervisory work during staff shortages.
  • Operate the facility optimized for cost and performance.
  • Develop internal/external alliances and partnerships to support the systems operations.
  • Responsible for site spares and maintaining inventory management database.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to interact clearly and concisely with all departments and levels of management

  • Ability to effectively manage time and prioritize tasks

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office

  • Willingness to learn new technologies is a requirement
  • RF system and test equipment knowledge and hands-on experience
  • Fundamentals of telecommunications, electrical systems, mechanics and computer networking
  • Ability to motivate and lead teams to achieve objectives and service levels to the highest standards
  • Excellent planning, organization and decision-making skills
  • Strong analytical, diagnostic, and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in reading, writing and communicating in English required

Education, Experience, and Licenses/Certifications:

  • High School diploma or GED-equivalent
  • Professional designation such as engineering technician or technologist in Electronics, Computer Science, or Information Systems would be useful but sufficient experience can substitute
  • 5) years of hands-on experience in a telecommunication operational environment preferred
  • Detailed technical knowledge of computer and telecommunication equipment and systems such as PSTN, LAN, WAN, UNIX, and personal computer operating systems

Requirements

  • Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally for short- and medium-term assignments required; valid passport required
  • Willingness and ability to work after regularly scheduled hours as needed
  • Ability to sit at a desk for prolonged periods working on a computer (4 to 8 hours)
  • Ability to operate the equipment used for the job

  • Ability to lift 75 pounds at times
  • Ability to perform tasks that require standing, walking, climbing ladders and working at moderate heights such as atop scaffolding
