Job description

Based in Hoover’s home office, this position oversees the administrative activities of the Development department, including human resources compliance, vendor management, finance and budget management, gift processing and data reporting/business intelligence. The role serves as the primary liaison to Hoover’s Finance and Information Technology teams.

Reporting to the Senior Manager of Development, the Manager of Development Operations manages a team of three direct reports: two data analysts and one gift processor/administrative support staff member. The role is responsible for leading, mentoring, and developing this team, including performance management and professional growth. The position also manages the department's vendor relationships and oversees production of data reports and business intelligence deliverables. In addition, the role helps build and manage Development's annual expense budget and gift income projections.

The Manager of Development Operations serves as the primary liaison between Development and two key partners: Hoover's Finance team, on budget management and financial reconciliation, and Hoover's Information Technology team, on data security and compliance. The role will also lead the Development data team through a transition to a new donor database system.

The successful candidate brings a very high level of attention to detail, strong organizational and problem-solving skills, and proven leadership experience. Preferred experience includes managing system transitions and familiarity with Stanford University systems, including Oracle.

Core Duties:

  • Manage staff in the day-to-day operations for functional area(s)
  • of responsibility. Responsible for hiring and retaining staff, career
  • coaching, personal development for direct reports and accountable for
  • the performance of employees. Ensure work completion within schedule and
  • constraints.
  • May independently or in collaboration with human resources
  • managers, guide supervisors in the interpretation and implementation of
  • human resources policies, procedures and programs.
  • Evaluate business plans and processes for operational and/or
  • financial effectiveness. Analyze and resolve complex issues and provide
  • alternative solutions as necessary. May lead process improvement for
  • immediate unit or program. Influence leadership on specific
  • recommendations for current operations and future development.
  • Analyze needs and make recommendations to leadership for changes
  • in staffing, facilities, health and safety compliance, finance,
  • technology and/or administrative functions.
  • Interpret, implement and ensure compliance with university
  • administrative policies and procedures. Recommend new internal policies,
  • guidelines and procedures.
  • Manage the finances for area(s) of responsibility which includes
  • developing, monitoring, analyzing, forecasting and reporting on the
  • annual budget.
  • Represent the department or program's business operations and
  • administrative affairs within the organization/school and/or outside
  • constituencies.

Minimum Education:

Bachelor’s degree

Minimum Experience:

three years of relevant experience in administrative and financial

management, or combination of education and relevant experience.
