This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Manager, State Authorization and Academic Compliance based in United States.
This role is responsible for coordinating state authorization and academic compliance across a complex higher education environment. You will manage multi-state authorization activities, monitor regulatory requirements, and help ensure continued compliance for distance education programs. The position combines regulatory research, project management, documentation, and stakeholder coordination. You will prepare high-stakes submissions, reports, narratives, and analyses for regulatory agencies and institutional leadership. You will also contribute to accreditation activities, compliance systems, and institutional readiness for regulatory reviews. Success requires strong judgment, exceptional writing and research capabilities, and the ability to translate complex requirements into practical actions. This is a fully remote opportunity with meaningful visibility across academic and administrative functions.
Accountabilities
- Lead the preparation and submission of state authorization applications, renewals, annual reports, and related regulatory filings.
- Research, interpret, and monitor state requirements affecting academic programs and distance education.
- Draft regulatory narratives, reports, analyses, responses, and other high-stakes materials for external agencies and institutional leadership.
- Develop and maintain compliance calendars, tracking systems, documentation repositories, and other tools that support timely regulatory activity.
- Support institutional readiness for state authorization reviews, regulatory inquiries, and potential participation in NC-SARA.
- Assist with accreditation reporting, self-studies, substantive change processes, evidence collection, and related compliance activities.
- Coordinate with academic and administrative stakeholders to gather, validate, organize, and present information required for regulatory and accreditation submissions.
- Identify emerging compliance risks and develop practical recommendations to address them.
- Build and maintain productive relationships with state agencies, accreditors, licensing boards, and other external regulatory partners.
- Manage multiple compliance initiatives simultaneously while ensuring deadlines, documentation standards, and quality requirements are consistently met.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
- At least 5 years of professional experience in higher education administration, academic affairs, compliance, accreditation, institutional effectiveness, regulatory affairs, governmental affairs, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience preparing complex written materials such as regulatory submissions, accreditation documentation, policy analyses, grant proposals, reports, or other high-stakes documents.
- Excellent writing, editing, research, analytical, and critical-thinking skills.
- Strong project management and organizational abilities, with the capacity to manage multiple priorities, stakeholders, and deadlines.
- Ability to interpret complex regulatory or policy requirements and communicate them clearly to diverse audiences.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Comfortable working independently in a fully remote environment using collaboration platforms such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams.
- Experience with state authorization compliance and distance education regulations is preferred.
- Familiarity with the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (NC-SARA) is preferred.
- Experience supporting accreditation reviews, self-studies, substantive change applications, or annual reporting is preferred.
- Experience interacting with regulatory agencies, accreditors, licensing boards, or governmental organizations is preferred.
- Experience supporting professional licensure disclosures is a plus.
- A Master’s degree in Higher Education, Public Administration, Public Policy, Business Administration, Law, or a related field is preferred.
